I was chatting with my from europe and
I am curious about the 1 to 10 scoring system, used to rate the appearance of women.
It seems to be an American phenomenon
how that starts
is American men thing?
when that  starts?
How long has it been used and Is it primarily used to rate providers or is it also used to to rate all women?
Do guys describe women they know as cute, pretty, beautiful, and reserve the numerical score for women they don't know, but may see passing by?
Do score your Wife or your  so  as number ? or words ...or both
What terms do you use to describe women ...
I'm curious.  In Europe and other countries that I have lived in, women are not rated by numbers. I'm not good in math anyway lol.

Curious to hear your response.
forgive this Italian immigrant here...

True beauty always comes from the inside out.
TER though forces us to choose a number in order to review.
However, it's not even the words that truly describe the experience, but simply the experience it self.
I'm with Carla on this one...I'm also not good with math!
Happy 2014

It's used to rate all women.  Kind of a face + body + personality = your ideal woman.  Of course, it's subjective.

It starred a model actress named Bo Derek.  The male lead was Dudley Moore, who meets Bo on his honeymoon.  Hilarity ensued.

As one person answered the numbering system became popular after the movie.
Mostly commonly used to give women a complex especially when asked "What would you rate me?"
Truly though beauty is in the eye of the beholder.   In regards to TER they have their own definition of 9-Model material 10-Once in a lifetime.   Hmmmmmmm........Subjective to the Hobbyist.
The link I have attached is a guideline popular for some.

I just though of this, What if the providers were able to score the men, Interesting concept I think.....Cause I know I'm a 4!  ;-)

t's a "guy thing" although some women have been known to rate guys in the same manner.
I appreciate that some ladies, feel it rude and demeaning to be objectified and categorized numerically but when it come to describing women;  Boys will be Boys, and I doubt that is going to change much, especially in a locker room setting.
For me the 1 to 10 system is merely the "Readers Digest Version" and always suspect.  I rarely employ it and don't use it to describe a friend or SO

As a 14 year old Gremmie, a well known surfer, allowed me to hang-out at his shop, down by MDR.
Whenever a girl walked by, someone in the showroom would yell out a number.  Anything over a 7 would generate interest...  Once, the owner yelled out "10"!   In two seconds the entire shop was on the sidewalk!  Shapers, Glassers, Laminators....

Like I said...  Boys will be Boy

Could you imagine the synchronized hissy fit that would tear the fabric of the universe if we were start to use that scale here?

It's just a quick way of describing most anything without having to go into detail. As you've probably notice, guys are usually not big on saying a lot, unless it's about sports, cars, drinking or themselves. As was mentioned above, it probably got popularized with the movie "10." However, it's also used like in sporting events such as Olympic divers, skaters, etc.

Now, while talking to this person in Europe, you weren't bragging were you; you and all your 10's.   ;)

I'm certain no numbers or wordy reviews do you justice, as a woman!  ;)

Kinda' shows how old the song is, and how the time has clouded our even 'older' brains.

Well, humans seem to love to evaluate, rank and rate everything.  Whether its a thumbs up or down or so many stars in a movie, or how high a score in the game.   As someone else pointed out, if you've ever watched Olympic Skating events, it's always a panel of judges evaluating the performance on a scale of 1-10 with the scores totaled and averaged.

So us guys evaluating a girl on looks or performance on a 1-10 scale is just an extension of that.  I can't believe it's only an American thing though.

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...

Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?

Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.

Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder
