And The Palm gets a lot of raves.  Taylor's or pacific dining car are a hoot for blue hairs.  A hottie like you?  Wolfgang's.

CUT is the best (the steak can be out of this world good), but the problem is they are not consistent (my last visit was about 1 year ago). I don't know if they have improved or not. I usually like to go to Mastro when I want a great steak because I can be sure of what I get.

Located in the middle of K-town, been there for years.  Food is good and price is inexpensive compared to other American steakhouses.
Trust me on this one.

The Cut in Beverly Hills, designed by world renowned architect Richard Meier, is said to be among the best.  I've read dozens of reviews in Yelp and they all support the quality of the meat, especially the Australian Wagyu.  It is also very expensive, but you know what they say.
Perhaps I can take you there once.  I'm nothing if not thorough ;)

I strongly disagree. You need USDA Prime as a minimum fat content for a steak to be really good. After that, it has to have great flavor. If it's not prepared correctly, which happened to me once at CUT, then the whole steak is not as good. So, it may seem simple, but if you really want the best then it's not that easy to get; otherwise, there would be no steakhouse anymore.

That's based my observation. Sometime people give lower rating on Yelp because they don't get seated fast enough or they can't find street parking, or they don't get get good service, etc. When I rate a restaurant, it's purely based on food, price is a distant 2nd. Most of the time the very best comes at a very high premium, it's up to each individual to decide whether it's worth it or not. Just my 2c.

If you don't have a budget then you should try Kobe (the very best). Order one Kobe for the table and each individual can order their own favorite steak. When everything comes to the table, you can share the Kobe by alternate between it and your own steak. It can be heavenly when everything is prepared right.

Yes. Not just value. They have contract with major slaughter houses. Same beef as many of the top chop houses. I'm in the biz. Dry age longer if you like, but this is top quality beef if you buy their prime.
Eaten at evry place mentioned and Mastros last night. Just okay!

until you've had a piece of grass fed steak. Cleaner taste, so many more nutrients than grain fed, and humanely raised. I love a lot of the aforementioned steakhouses, but not too many places offer grass fed steak (Boa has an organic NY Strip but it's not grass fed). You can get a nice cut of grass fed filet at any Whole Foods or crunchy-granola health food store. Lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled for a couple minutes, and it's heavenly :)

Mortons and Palm's ribeye didn't have enough marble for my taste. Although Ruths Chris' ribeye has very good flavor, it has a bit too much marble and steak quality was not the best. Mastro's ribeye was just right. That's just my personal preference in ribeye.

After watching Food Channel on how to cook a steak, I bought a cast iron pan and a USDA Prime ribeye with good marbling from Whole Food. What can be simpler than a steak, right? WRONG!!! I completely ruined the steak by over cooking it. It taste like beef jerky. I had to give it to my dog. After that, I gave up cooking.

Practice.  Practice. Practice.  Season it properly, get that iron pan as high as you can and just starting to smoke, lay th emeat in there, wait a good minute, then turn the heat down to 3/4... wait until it is nice and seared and flip once.  If it's thick throw it in the oven at 350 or 400.... heaven.

I was just at a really big Whole Foods in Orange County and not only did they have a yummy filet on sale, they actually will cook it to your specifications right there for you! No extra charge for the cooking either. Best deal at WF by a lot. I don't know if they do that at all of them, so you may want to give them a call. Also, they refer to their grass fed filet mignon as Chateaubriand. Probably because they feel the need to remind that they are fancypants haha.

Just a few thoughts.  Mastro's is okay but they used wet aged meat.  That translates to a taste that is not as intense or flavorful as dry aged.  Cut has dry aged meat but I find the environment a little sterile.  It's truly architectural and doesn't give you a warm fuzzy.  The top of my list fro prime dry aged steaks is a little stunner of a restaurant in Santa Monica named Capo.  It is a hip version of a Tuscan farm complete with some of the best contemporary art in L.A.  The steaks are cooked on a wood-burning fireplace in the middle of the dining room.  The pastas are sublime and the service is way professional.  The wine list is encyclopaedic and the prices are high.  But if I am looking for meat and someone to meet. . .That is the place.
