Hotels:

Crown Plaza or Westin LAX would be my recommendations - both right off the airport on Century, both are "provider friendly". 3.5 star, but rates are as good or better than the 3 star marriott courtyard, my other recommendation.

Restaurants: my favorites in the area are both in marina del rey.

Charthouse - steaks seafood

Sapori - Italian

The Encounter @ LAX is interesting for drinks and munchies.

Enjoy your visit :)

In addition to the other recommendations, consider El Segundo and Manhattan Beach areas which are roughly 15 minutes south of LAX.

El Segundo on Rosecrans Avenue

Flemings  known for their steaks

McCormick & Schmicks  known for both seafood and steaks

Manhattan Beach   awesome beach community with intimate 50 to 100 seat restaurants and great bar action and eye candy

Italian

Mangiamo    menu online

Talia's   menu online

Steak

Rock'n Fish  has excellent steaks as well Menu On line

Fonz's   great menu including steaks Menu On line   ( Tiger Woods used to hang out here in the old days when he was single and had a condo in Manhattan Beach

You have many choices............

Enjoy

The area around LAX is pretty much of a gastronomic wasteland. The only good place to eat in the area is  Ayara Thai at 6245 W. 87th Street in Westchester just north of LAX. For beef try their When Tigers Cry appetizer, it is great.

Like Doc said, for a decent restaurant you need to go to Marina Del Ray, Cafe Del Rey is my favorite.

If you want a good steak go to Ruths Chris in Bev Hills.

I haven't been in a long while, but all the Houston's have a good rep for a nice steak, and that spinach and artichoke dip appy, YUM!

Can't be more than 10-15 min cab ride from any of the LAX area hotels.

Maybe someone who has dined there recently can give you a more update.

Failing that, try www.chowhound.com

I LOVE LA!

Old non-chain steak houses by LAX

I really like the old 1930's LA Confidential type atmosphere at George Petrelli's.  I've heard the Buggy Whip is great as well.
