i am a la native and can tell you that you want to avoid lax (by the airport). orange county is nice but you definitely don't want to get into trouble over there because they will throw the book at you. be careful in van nuys and in burbank because they do lots of stings and you definitely don't want to end up in the van nuys court (not a good court to be busted in) and the cops in burbank are hard core as well.
