My preference would be low dim lights on well enough we could see each other.  

Since most of my dates are during daylight hours,  I like the dim lighting also.  I love to see the lovely lady that I am enjoying.

I wish to look into the eyes of my partner, since she is beautiful.  Also, I prefer to spend time with someone that we have spent time together multiple times over the years (lick lick!) and the connections are much more intensely amazing.

One evening my wife and I were having sex with the lights on. She looked at me and said, ...Oh, xyz23 (not my real name) shut the car door! 😈

It's like eating in the dark.  You need to see where the hole is.

I do like a light on so I can see what I'm getting my hands and mouth on or my 388fff's around  
if the room is dark or keeping the blinds closed .  
Candles make a nice lighting and smell so good in hotel rooms !

I need to be able to see the details so dim is fine. Natural light even better
