I read some suggestions on getting Google Voice and was wondering if anyone here uses it and if they recommend it?  Thanks

Very easy to set up and use.

Just make sure you set your call screening settings to off, otherwise, the caller will get the voicemail settings or ring another phone which may not be what you want.  Normally you don't know the provider number so just be aware.

That is the only service I use.  You also have the option to text from that number.
I use my Google Voice app on my iphone religiously.
You can be discreet and efficient without having to disclose your personal phone number.
