PCH road-trip, LA to Oakland: Suggestions?

I'm planning a leisurely trip up PCH in a month or two.  Obviously, there are many nice TER choices in LA and SF, but what about in-between?

Dunno about TER type rest stops....

But HIGHLY recommend both The Ventana Inn and The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.  dinner at the PRI restaurant is really good.  I used to know so e good providers in SF, but that was a decade ago......

Others should be able to help.....
