having dinner with the family and my text lights up with a message from a provider whom I had spoken to a few days back saying she is available in my area tonight....Out of the blue..I didn't ask for a text, heck she wasn't available and I said I'd try again...damn awkward you know?

Next day I get a text at 9 PM from a different provider who I had seen before and had a great time with, telling me she is running a special for previous clients...again I didn't ask for text...

Isn't there a rule of thumb or something for providers about this? Although I appreciate them thinking of me and trying to schedule...but damn very inconvenient timing with family...

All these years and never happened before..now 2x in a week...both pretty well reviewed ladies...Is there a drought of clients this week or something?

Has anyone else had an uptick in this activity?

This issue happens on both sides.   I prefer email only, but do provide a phone # after receiving a deposit to book.  I would say that even if you share the facts (SO) people do not care & will still text at all hours regardless.  Strange, but true.

I have not had a hobby phone in over 3 years & I do not plan on getting one anytime soon.  I keep my phone on vibrate.

I was trying to set up time with a girl and had been waiting for her to get back to me via email.   But midday I get a text, with my name, her name and 'hey I can meet you tomorrow at 1pm".... Holy F__K!  Had my SO seen that I'd be DEAD MEAT.  No way to explain that out.  Thankfully, I was out alone doing errands, so no harm, but man, that was close.

I try never to give my phone # until I've ironed out the details, and made sure they don't text outside of a biz hours.  I try to never text until I'm at the door.  Usually this has worked fine.

I have thought of getting a hobby phone, but figured I didn't want to have to explain that if it was found. I may have to rethink that.

doc,

if you have a smart phone, there are apps that let you get a second phone right on the same unit!  if you dont have a smart phone, get one.  no one will think twice about you wanting one

Keep the hobby phone off unless using it or get a google voice number. If you can afford to hobby you can afford a "bat line" this avoiding embarrassing situations of "who is texting you at 9pm?"

But thankfully the screens are unreadable to anyone out of direct line of sight, and there is a long list of other industries that "market" in this manner. Verbally dismissing the offending interruption too others as "just another damn telemarketer" is easy enough!

Me thinks it may be decades until we properly sort out EDE “Electronic Device Etiquette”; but as long as humans have secrets to keep; untimely telecommunication notifications will happen

Get a Burner Phone app for your Android or iPhone if you have one of those.

Create burner numbers to use from your normal phone. I've done this and it's great. :-)

List, DG, you must get one. You shove it into a secret pocket in your briefcase, or glove compartment in your car, or WHEREVER the SO never goes.  You set it to silent EXCEPT when in your car awaiting a call or text from a provider.  And you NEVER VARY from the routine.  EVER.  If somehow the SO finds it, tell her you found it and was trying to return it, but forgot about it.  But don't let her find it!
