And peruse the boards? Am completely clueless, but can they pay for VIP and look at all the detailed reviews? Then use that info to try to crack down on agencies/independents?

Anyone who thinks the internet is truly anonymous is sadly mistaken.  It took the Boston police about a day to get all the real world information they needed on to track down and arrest the "Craig's List Killer" last year through internet forensics.  Granted a hooker bust may not get quite as speedy a response from your average ISP but, once court orders get issued, it's just a matter of time...

My two current favs have zero TER presence and don't allow reviews.  There is a reason for this.

I believe that on the cases when passwords were stolen or coerced from members when they were arrested or questioned by LE and gave up their passwords and identities, that TER took action but anyone with a computer can easily get in here and everywhere else in the web, how could you think otherwise?

Many people create risk by detailing who they are or other info that can lead to their identity. Our providers do the same. Life is a risk and info can have negative results in the wrong hands. As a result providers have been located by LE and info from TER and other sites can be used not to convict them but to find them and then if the LE wishes they proceed.

Hobbyist rarely suffer except in the case of hobbyists and moderators here and elsewhere who have invoked the rage of feminists or organized providers who felt their comments or actions were worthy of being denounced; that denunciation was made by publicly outing them on the internet so that anyone doing a search would find reference to their escorting activities  that up until that time were thought to be private and secret. Big surprise! Included in such notes were their real names, their addresses, phone numbers, where they worked and even how much they spent on the hobby and even the names of their wives and children. So not just LE is watching but others as well. Perhaps one should be aware that words on the internet and activities thought to be clandestine can have dire repercussions.

Yes, for personal as well as professional interests. I'd be surprised if the number of LE hobbyists wasn't greater than zero.
Yes, just like any other user.
Yes, and I'd speculate it's already happened.

Any non-trivial understanding of the history of TER and law enforcement's use of the Internet to gather intelligence might well lead to these conclusions.

My average post on Legal Corner gets between 100-200 reads before it scrolls off into oblivion.   There is one post I wrote last December, however, on how to avoid LE, that has now gotten 4441 reads and continues to get read even though it is over 8 months old.

Now who do you think is reading it?  You guys certainly aren't searching for my old posts.  As soon as I saw what was happening, and the pattern emerged within a few weeks, I regretted writing the post.  I won't make that mistake again in the future.

Last week I saw a video, either here or elsewhere, of the Westminster, CA police department planning their sting operations.  You could see from their computer screens that they were using Craig's List.  To think that they don't use ALL the sites is naive.

We may think LE is misguided and wasting valuable taxpayer resources busting escorts, but we should never think they're not intelligent or informed enough to know exactly what's going on.

Like most people, they chose their battles carefully to get the most impact for the resources expended.  This means they usually (but certainly not always) go after the most blatant offenders or those that have had complaints registered against them.

The key to longevity is to always make yourself a low-value target.

At the same time, considering how budget cuts have affected so many police departments, LE might be less interested in monitoring TER than in investigating more serious issues. While the violent crime rate nationwide is relatively low, I figure it's just a matter of time before it goes up, partly if crooks see enforcement as lax because cities and counties are going bankrupt. That's something I don't want to see.

I live in the Hartford, CT area and LE there does streetwalker stings about every two months. That is always your greatest risk.

then people wonder why the Chicago board gives rude answers to newcomers that ask certain kinds of questions with an alias or having no reviews/post history. Our LE has stated in the news that they are aware of and monitor TER. They know how to use the internet and can read the FAQs just as well as you and I. Proceed accordingly.

I've seen them use TER handles before .
Example
I had someone contact me using a dear client of mines handle and his email addy to try and set me up.
The funny thing is I know he wouldn't email me as I've known them for years and they have my personal cell # to text, talk to me. We talk on a weekly basis.
