Recently a detective emailed a hobbyist friend of mine saying something to the effect of:
Please call us in regards to an ongoing investigation. Dont make me call your home number or show up at your home.
The email address is legit. It DID come from a MD detective for sure. I told him to see a lawyer and have the lawyer call the detective.

What can detectives actually do in Maryland when conducting an investigation? They did state his real/correct name in his hobby email so they do know who he is. If they knock on his door can they tell his wife or grown children(over 18) what they want to question him about in detail?
He's never been convicted of anything so how can this slimy little detective threaten him like this?
Or is this just another lame scare tactic and they are hoping he will call so that they dont go to his home?
I told him that LE does not ask nicely in an email...if they have something against him they would arrest him, not email him.

Funny how they are depending on hobbyist to bring down a big agency....the SAME hobbyist they'll slap cuffs on and take to jail given the chance.

His friend is lucky. Some people they have been calling direct land lines !!!

It is best for him to get a lawyer. Remember to claim the 5th and STFU.

They are calling people in other jurisdictions.

If they have the time they will visit your office even if you work in another state and it is close by to them.

An e-mail is not a legal notice.  Your friend does not have to do anything.  If they had anything on HIM, they'd sure not be tipping their hand.
Does LE have his real name & information?  If so, I'd recommend representation.  If not, I'd ignore this fishing phishing expedition.  With all the people trying to steal our money, it could not be held against you.
Probably targeting an agency...  but STFU is always the way to go.  If LE does contact further, legal representation is a must to determine what evidence LE already has.  No point in providing them the rope to hang us or anyone else with...  which will only drag your friend into it.
Your friend's information in a provider's book does not prove he ever met her, let alone did anything illegal.
LE is trying to use the threat of outting to coerce additional information that they do not already have.

Cops can go to the home and attempt to locate and interview your friend. They are trying to scare him into cooperating for fear of his wife finding him out. Only snag could be if the cops have the wrong guy, they could be open to defamation suit, however risk to cops is slight. Once your friend asks for an attorney, the cops cannot talk to your friend, but the cops could talk to his wife -- dirty play but fair game. Your friend may want to get rid of any home computers/hobby phones, etc. if he hasn't already.  If cops want to be total dicks (pun intended) they may be able to get a search warrant, come to his home Saturday morning, search his place, and ruin his life.  All-in-all probably lame scare tactic, but one pissed off cop can create a lot of trouble.

Sorry for the alias.......please let us know what your friend's lawyer says to do.  I suspect the advice would be to STFU.  Unless your friend committed a felony, (had sex with a minor, sold or supplied drugs, or worse) the police would have had to witness him in the act in order for him to be charged.

Chances are they will sent the same e-mail to every contact they have and hope at least one person panics, and not persue the others any further.

Did he submit his info to an agency site?  I saw something about Mont. Co. PD having access to webforms on a couple agency sites in the DC area...  Just wondering if that is how they got his info.

could be a wiretap via electronic surveillance - If they get probable cause, its possible to tap both email and website submittals without it being known - all internet traffic is "routed" via an IP address - if you have the legal right (subpoena/wiretap approval), you simply contact the IP host (or the folks who administer the IP/domain name master database) and arrange for all traffic to a particular IP address to be duplicated and also copied to a second computer - and this is completely invisible.  So once there is enough evidence to bust an agency, not necessary to bust them, simply get to wiretap approval, monitor all traffic, you have a window upon all appointments being scheudled, and name, time, place, and any other info thats exchanged that way.  If multiple modes are used (e.g. web form/email first, but details via telephone later) it gets harder, but not impossible.

The critical factor is the exchange of cash for sex.  If you simply pay dollars for time, yes there's a risk you may end up with just a nice chat (which some term a ROB), but you also minimize risk.  If you stick with well reviewed idies (and in particular those that do not advertise or mention any explicit acgts on their websites), its a good bet they enjoy sex and mutual attraction will take over once you disrobe, but you've dramatically reduced your risk.

if they make allegations to your family, they better be able to prove them in court and they can't.

however, they can and will do anything they want until you tell them no.

most likely your friend hasn't actively hobbied in a while.
they are targeting those guys probably thinking that since they have moved on from the hobby, those guys will be the easiest to scare into giving up their passwords because they dont want their past coming back to haunt them.

IGNORE THE THREATS

file a complaint with the state attorney general office.
they have a complaint form online that is quick and painless.
you don't have to suffer from police harassment and threats to destroy your family unless you let them.

i dont care how many reviews dude posted.. those were only fantasies he had and he doesnt appreciate the police threatening to come to his home just because he posted some fantasies a few years ago during a time when he was lonely.

violating his freedom to speech by threatening to expose it to people he obviously doesn't want to share the speech with.  ask for punitive damages to be paid.

i'm not even kidding.
ive used the ag office before. they are great.  and im normally very anti-government.

also make sure he saves the emial to a jump drive by selecting at the top left corner of his browser menu the following:  file, save as, then save the whole file onto the jump drive he can put in a safe place....... sometimes these emails disappear off the email servers so you want a copy on a jump drive or his hard drive if he has no family concerns but i'm sure he does or he wouldnt have been targeted.....
make sure it is showing full headers ..... select view full headers

email me if you need help with this

they are using proxify servers but they are using the free kind which is LOL technical security protection and you will see the real originating ip if you use view full header.

you havent even met with anyone yet.

cops need to stop the fake panic bullshit cuz i think the public is going to get upset when they see how much time you guys spend on escort sites posting bullshit.

especially the members of the public who are callling in needing help and getting ignored.

your little one layer proxy servers aren't going to give you THAT much cover.

i know you guys think escorts dont have any other skills, and i hope you keep thinking that.
you wont believe i can pop your proxy in 30 seconds or less and that is fine with me.
