the keys are electronic and expire or are canceleled when the hotel occupant checks out or leaves and his time is up, thereore it is a dead key once it is no longer the key for the actual occupier, the electronic combination is infinite and changed repeatedly by computer so a dead key would have no use other than an sourvenier or to confuse security, they might get someone using the key to get through security on trespass but not on having a lock pick which is a more serious offense.
I was talking with an entertainer here in Vegas that has become a friend - no, we are not crossing or erasing the entertainer/client relationship line, we know our situation and are just friends.
Anyways, I noticed that she carries room keys for pretty much all the hotels on the Strip and so do other entertainers. They do this so they can walk right by security and head right to the elevators when visiting a client. Otherwise, they would have to have security call up to the room or have the client meet them downstairs.
I always meet the ladies at a bar or the lobby floor before proceeding up to my room. I always want them to feel comfortable with me and not have to go through security.
I've heard that if they get caught by security or police with different keys, that the keys can be considered "lock-picking" devices, and that by using the keys to bypass security to get to the room floors at a hotel they are not registered or staying at can be considered trespassing.
My friend has heard something like that, but doesn't know if it's true.
I really don't want her or any other entertainer getting into deeper trouble by having multiple keys should the day come where she meets up with LE.
My question for all you legal minds out there is: Is it a good idea for the girls to carry various hotel keys, and is it illegal to do so?

Furthermore, the hotels could easily undo this practice by changing the color or design of the cards periodically so a provider would have to get a new key every so often which must be PITA to get in the first place.
I've seen providers in Vegas and each time we met down in the Casino and went up to the room together.
Most hotels do change the color or design of the key cards periodically, when they do, the girls usually just ask the client for his if he's checking out right away.
I worked in hotel security for a bit and wrote a diatribe on this in the Vegas board. And I do not agree with your analysis that the keys could not be deemed to be 'burglary tools'.
1) If she just has possession of keys bearing a logo/color and "flashes" them to get past security, but the keys are expired and not for a current room, then she could be nailed for tresspass; 2) If she has an active key for a room that was given to her by someone who is a paying guest at that time (or for rooms that her agency may have rented - some agencies will get a room at each of several major hotels-and get multiple keys, share them among the providers they book for as/when they have need for an incall; and also let their providers use the keys for outcalls to the same hotels as a means to get past security), then she is perfectly fine; Several of the high end agencies do this, so they basically have a room and set of keys for eachof the 4-6 largest hotels - and drivers/runners who can help swap the keys if need be - this allows their high end providers to gain access to these hotels without any hassle - often thru a garage where you need a key to go straight up. if someone is paying $500, $1,000 per hour, its a minor cost for a driver to enter a garage, let the provider out, then pay a $20 exit fee - and she gets to use a garage elevator to gain less obvious access and go straight to room levels. Many hotels now limit this, however, and only program the keys to go to a certain floor - in that case, she still needs to meet the client somewhere - but this can be the lobby, the floor where the gym/spa is, a convention meeting room floor.
3) If she has one of the electronic key pick devices (devices that can run thru a variety of "combination codes" in rapid succession in an effort to gain access - that's a burglarly tool.
