Called a provider's number. Got an automated message informing me that the local police department had logged my phone number into their data base and reminding me that solicitation is a no-no. I'm not worried because I have a hobby phone that is in now way connected to me in real life. Just wondering what you make of this, if any guys have had a similar experience, and if just to be extra, extra cautious I should dispose of my throw-away phone...

and you know what they say about guys with fat thumbs....

If so, then make pretend you didn't understand the message and leave a message that you want to set up an appointment and leave a number for the office of the mayor of the city.

Then park your ass across from City Hall and watch the show.

Either this is on the level or your provider has gone out of business or her jealous boy friend has changed her phone message......Assuming the former, if your number on the throwaway phone is traceable then no need to throw it away as it is already traced. Many throwaways are not traceable and and that being the case it is probably ok to hold on to it, unless somehow you are caught robing a bank and the phone is seized and becomes evidence and then the cops figure out you are the guy who was calling the pro way back when.... One of our phone geeks will correct me if i am wrong;  however, dialing a number is not evidence of solicitation so the notice  you hear is a warning without real legal significance but a little scary eh?

Was this the number of a legit, known provider or was it a new listing?  It could have been an LE set up to begin with intended as a simple deterrent. Back in the days of Boston's old Combat Zone LE used to pull guys over who were cruising for street walkers all the time for simple traffic infractions. They would let you go without a ticket but made sure to let you know that cruising for hookers was illegal and your license plate had been recorded...

I wouldn't sweat it at all...Since when has it been illegal to call a wrong number? That's all you have to say..

There was a lady in Philly about a year who had a 'notice' on her web site that said "Ths site has been taken over by the Philadelphia Police Departent. By coming here you agree that you are solciting and your IP address has been recorded" balh blah blah, or something like that...

Really lame. I didn't belive it for a second.  Why would the police advertise where thery were busting johns?  They would just bust them and clean up at the courts with all of the misdeamoner charges and not guilty pleas.  Courts make $$$ with feees, whether the state wins or not.

I had contacted her before for references and I kne she was having issues with her boyfriend... I called her because I was concerned.  

It turned out her jealous provider roommate got onto her computer and copied the logo from the Philly Police site... the roommate ended up getting charged with impersonating law enforcement... the provider was fine, there were no charges against her and she didn't even have to testify.  The web designer pressed charges for hacking or something...

LE can work in reverse sometimes.  I thought that was an interesting antidote to your story.  Hope everything with that provider is ok.
