I was talking with an entertainer here in Vegas that has become a friend - no, we are not crossing or erasing the entertainer/client relationship line, we know our situation and are just friends.

Anyways, I noticed that she carries room keys for pretty much all the hotels on the Strip and so do other entertainers. They do this so they can walk right by security and head right to the elevators when visiting a client. Otherwise, they would have to have security call up to the room or have the client meet them downstairs.

I always meet the ladies at a bar or the lobby floor before proceeding up to my room. I always want them to feel comfortable with me and not have to go through security.

I've heard that if they get caught by security or police with different keys, that the keys can be considered "lock-picking" devices, and that by using the keys to bypass security to get to the room floors at a hotel they are not registered or staying at can be considered trespassing.

My friend has heard something like that, but doesn't know if it's true.

I really don't want her or any other entertainer getting into deeper trouble by having multiple keys should the day come where she meets up with LE.

My question for anyone who has knowledge about this is: Is it a good idea for the girls to carry various hotel keys, and is it illegal to do so?

The wrong keys let alone a bunch to different hotels.IMO may not be a good but to each his or her own

I knew a few girls that carried room keys to different hotels.The hotels change those keys frequently for just this reason.She used the old key and security stopped her took the key,escorted her to the security room and 86'd her from the property.It is not even worth the aggravation just meet the lady downstairs somewhere or meet at a certain place and slip her your extra key.

You do know that hotels change the codes to get into rooms each time someone checks in/out right?  That's why the front desk doesn't care whether or not you return your keys whenever you check out.  An old hotel key is a useless piece of plastic...unless you count that 1-in-more than 10 million chance that hotels recycle codes and your old key just happens to work for one of the hotel's thousands of rooms on a particular day.

Ladies who do this are trespassing because they're entering an area of the hotel that's restricted to guests.  But people who hold on to a bunch of old keys are guilty of nothing more than loving souvenirs.  It's the act of trying to get into a restricted area that poses the problem with LE/security.  

If I ran a hotel and caught someone trying to enter the room area even though they aren't a guest and then a quick search reveals cards for a bunch of other hotels in addition to mine, I'd be suspicious about who the person is and what he/she is all about.  And I'd probably take steps to make sure that the person never appeared at my property ever again.

It's a bad idea because the risks outweigh the benefits.  The only benefit is being able to get to clients' rooms a few minutes quicker.  The risks include getting kicked out/blacklisted/banned from a hotel or arrested.  Not to mention putting yourself at more risk by not being able to examine clients before entering their rooms to see if they are on drugs/intoxicated/dangerous/crazy/plain unpleasant.

How can she or anyone do that? Does she have room at different hotels? I feel like i'm missing something.

Once the key expires , some hotels allow to keep as souvenirs .

But having a collection from many different hotels and getting caught trying to use an expired key  (they change face of key every so many days ) for sure security and LE will find a list of charges.

and yes if caught wondering the floors and not registered guest and not with the guest , they can consider trespassing. Hotels are private properties ....... if they don't like the way you look they will find a reason to 86 for trespassing.

Having keys is so old school. when back in the days the keys were real keys , not sliding magnet  cards

Advise her to get rid of these keys asap. No reason to give more reasons for extra charges.
So many ways for a guy to meet a lady downstairs,  even if he needs discretion.

They are collected as the lady makes her rounds around Vegas either by the guy giving them to her or she has/had incall at one point.

While having multiple hotel keys may well constitute a crime such as 'posession of burglary tools' or some such, or at least give LE an excuse to arrest you whether the DA will take the case or not, tresspassing in Nevada is another issue.  

For the most part, you can only be guilty of tresspassing in Nevada if you have been previously read a 'Tresspass Warning' as quoted in the Nevada Revised Statute and that warning documented.  Then if you return to that place and are caught, then you could be arrested (99% probability that you would be cited and released (written a ticket)).  Or if you were to refuse to leave a place after you had been told to go by management then you would be in violation as well.  

Here is where things get sticky and listening to anyone other than an attorney - and that includes ME - is dangerous.  Ever hear of 'Burglary'?  Thats where some guy dressed in black with a mask and a bag marked 'swag' breaks into a house or business at night right?  WRONG.  In Nevada, you have committed 'Burglarly' at any time you enter any private property with the INTENT to commit a crime inside.  Matters not that the place was open for business and the door man held the door open for you and tipped his hat as you went in.  I'm betting that if a lady was found inside a hotel tower with multiple room key cards in her purse, a Burglary charge COULD be in the offing.  

How did Security or LE come to search a lady's purse?  Security in particular really does not have the right to invade your privacy like that although if you let them intimidate you, they certainly will.  When confronted by Security, just like with LE, the less you say the better.  Don't answer questions other than to tell them you were 'visiting a friend' and its NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS who it was and LEAVE the hotel.  Do NOT present your ID, they will ask for it, but you have no legal obligation to show it to them, but they DO have the legal right to tell you to leave the property and follow you off the property to ensure that you do.   IF you DO give them your ID, they have GOT you, they will hold onto it and ask you to come with them to the Security Office (a mini police booking section) where they may well formally tresspass you and document it with photos etc.   If you refuse to give the ID they probably will read you the Tresspass Warning and have to rely on the video from all the TV cams for your photos.  

Hotel security is not dumb and they know many providers are working in their hotel at the request and for the pleasure of their guests.  Being discrete and staying as UTR as you can will avoid most problems with security.   I know most of the hotels have constant roving patrols of the hotel corridors looking for any problems and, most certainly, anyone loitering about the elevators or wandering the halls would stick out like a sore thumb.   Going directly to and from a hotel room shouldn't cause any suspicion though given modest dress.

Let me tell you something about Casinos in Vegas, they do what they want...they zoom in the camera on you and can watch every move you make and even listen to your conversations then have security hold as they please and search you if they want, and yes security can ask your ID and kick you out whenever they want...

And Nevada has an absurd law that any crime committed in any building can also be charged as a burglary (a Class B offense). Class A being the most serious!!! It's a running joke that the prosecutors just charge it so you'll plead guilty to the underlying offense and then they agree to drop the burglary charge.

Yes they can ASK for your ID and kick you out for any or NO reason but they cannot force you to GIVE them your ID.  Once they have IT, they have YOU as you can't force them to give it BACK till the Cops show up.

Its a charge that seems to be put on every crime committed in Nv
