Just watched a Vegas Pauley C vid. He said MGM and Caesars have ruined the Strip for average people. They sold the land under the casinos to hedge funds and now must pay huge amounts of rent. Occupancy down to 76% weekdays and weekends. They now charge for everything and nickel and dime everyone. They only want the Whales. Elevators not working at Caesars and one cocktail server on the floor in Paris when he was there. He does have good things to say about private operators like the Southpoint. I stayed last year at the Tuscany and thought it was great. What other gems are there off the strip and downtown that feel like old Vegas and dont gouge you?

Have to say he made a lot of good points. The on-strip properties nickel and dime you to death.

My home away from in Las Vegas is the South Point. (The video spot on about this property.) It never disappoints. It’s clean and in good repair (in my experience). Room rates are reasonable (although they too have resort fees). Parking is still free. Restaurants are good, although not spectacular, and are a decent value for the money. Great sports book. (Can’t give an opinion on the rest of the gaming options, an occasional $20 bet on a football game is the extent of my gambling.) Drink prices reasonable (compared to the strip). Always something to do, when I lived in Las Vegas I saw many movies at its theaters and bowled many lines at their bowling alley. Some of Las Vegas’ loviest ladies have visited me while I was staying there.

I hate to say it, but it makes sense for the casinos to go after the whales.   They are the people that are thriving in this economy.  They have more money to blow than ever while their other customers are just struggling to pay their bills.

Booked my late February trip and what’s was funny was that the room was comp’d but I still had to do the resort fees… go figure🤔

Great thing about Vegas is there is something for most anyone. On my flight in I sat next to a young woman who has never been. She was amped up lol.

So, it's SB weekend, and I read where occupancy is so low on the Strip that Wynn/Encore are quoting $299 and Venetian/Palazzo $279 per night, as mid-level players are staying away in droves this year.
Some of the mid-and lower-tier places like Rio ($99) and Sahara ($49) are obviously stuck with a glut of rooms, too.
Glad to see people are showing some blow-back of the outrageous rates these joints have been charging the past few years!

Plaza is a great property. Best breakfast place around and Hogs and Heffers is temporarily there. Have fun

Staying at the Red Rock it is some distance away from the strip.
But gives them a break from the strip and a different experience. Although it does charge a resort fee.
I would also suggest the Durango Hotel/Casino close enough to the strip being it is right off the215fwy .
It has some great restaurants and very nice suites .

Durango is expanding already even though the hotel was built not too long ago. Has a 24hr Oyster bar IMO is almost as good as the Palace Station.
Quite a few stay at the Southpoint or downtown hotels as well. Sahara hotel has totally redone their rooms and casino floor as well as restaurants.I think Italian has 40% off on steaks on Tuesdays

I recall years ago I had a client who was upper management. He asked me how do my clients feel about vegas.
I have spoke to so many of my clients and even family/friends every last one of those people are screaming the same thing "hey i am tired of going to Vegas and getting nickel and dimed .Tell us fees upfront so it is not a guessing game.Meanwhile customer service is going down." I told him he should suggest to his colleagues resort fees to be waived for 1 year and I bet visitor attendance would go up. Compare revenue from those periods.
He laughed at me and said if they cannot afford Vegas stay home. We are giving visitors free parking. I told him excuse my language but F the free parking ..hardly anyone is renting a car while in Vegas but they have $ and do not want to be nickel and dimed . He lost his job a couple of weeks later when casino got bought out...smh
