Counties in Nevada that don't exceed a certain number of inhabitants can allow legal prostitution, and most do. Prostitution remains illegal in the counties of Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe and next to the Utah border.

Where it is allowed, prostitution is governed by a multitude of regulatory laws and ordinances on the state, county and city level. Streetwalking is illegal everywhere and prostitutes have to be registered, get regular health check ups and can only work out of licensed brothels.

On a personal note, I was sorry to hear what happened to you.  I hope that all works out for you.

Ken

Las Vegas is located in Clark County.  All prostitution is illegal throughout Clark County.

Reno is located in Washoe County.  All prostitution is illegal throughout Washoe County.

An interesting fact about Carson City is that it is not officially located in any county.  It is an "independent city."  But, prostitution is illegal there.

There is no actual city of "Lake Tahoe" in Nevada.  The Lake Tahoe region of Nevada includes parts of Washoe County, Carson City, and Douglas County.  Prostitution is illegal in those jurisdictions.

Counties with legal prostitution (licensed brothels) include Nye County, Esmeralda County, and Storey County.  I'm sure there are other counties where it is legal, but those are the only ones I know for certain.

In Nevada, it's generally governed by county statutes.  Clark County (where Las Vegas is) and Washoe County (where Reno is) generally do not have legal prostitution due to state statutes (prohibiting the licensing of houses of ill repute in counties of more than 400,000 residents or something to that effect).  Otherwise, the county pretty much makes up the rules and who is licensed to operate and work in each place.

If you do a search, the phrase "Legal prostitution in Nevada" or LPIN are good things to search for.

It's illegal in counties with a population of 250,000 or more people. Thus illegal in Clark County (Las Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno).

She was represented as being in chat on Tues.

Staff, for those of us just tuning in at home, could you maybe publish a transcript of the chat so all of us can at least try to make sense of this?

I actually think I can but would like to read the transcript first.

I posed the same question on Boston and the National boards.

Something funny going here?
