So, I am I'm the midst of planning a trip during the marathon, since the strip will be a disaster what off strip hotels would be a good place to stay and have some fun?

I have always enjoyed the Palms Place (not just the Palms).  Cool vibe in the rooms, and if you get a full suite there is all kinds of places to play from the big kitchen area to the soaking tub to in front of the fireplace etc.....  Free self parking that is fairly convenient, easy and convenient to get to the "naughty store" on Tropicana.  No room key needed for access to the elevators, a nice cozy bar in the lobby.   I guess you know my feelings hahahah  best of luck

Just wanted to mention that I have been to Palms Place a couple times in the past few months and they did in fact have security checking for room keys.
The suites there are nice though and there is a lounge downstairs where you can meet your guest.

Neither have security. Let me know if you would enjoy my company while you're here!

The Orleans is one of my favorite off-strip hotel/casinos.  Parking is also free.  They do have security at the elevators, so just arrange to meet your "guest" in the casino.

. . . is one of my favorite places in Vegas for a variety of reasons:

- The food is great.
- The view in the hotel rooms can be great.
- There are no machines/games in the lobby to rob you of your $.

Most importantly,

The rooms are very nice (big jacuzzi, tv in bathroom mirror + full kitchen) and the Trump hotel is quite affordable.

It's plenty of other nice hotels to choose from in Las Vegas.

The Grandview at Las Vegas and South Point Hotel are both really nice spots.
It's off the strip but the location is not bad and both places have big rooms.

Recently, I have been staying at the Embassy Suites Convention Center when I vacation in Las Vegas.

No resort fee
Free Wi-Fi
Free parking
Free breakfast
Free shuttle running hourly to the strip
No security check at elevator

And you get a fridge and microwave in the room to boot. The decor is a little dated, and the shuttle stops at like 10pm or thereabouts, so you'll have to uber back at the end of the night. But all in all a pretty good deal.

If I'm in vegas for more than a few days, ES is my go-to, otherwise I'm at Aria or something. Elevator security isn't a huge deal, you just have to meet at the bar and walk up with them.

I've stayed at the Trump. The rooms were nice, extremely affordable, no security at the elevators, all the bottled water was free, no casino, good food at the restaurant, room service food 24/7, pet friendly, kitchenette and the mall across the street has a convenience store that sells food and alcohol.

If you don't mind being off the strip the RedRock Casino in Summerlin is always a great choice! I'm a huge lover of crystals and they have beautiful geodes and crystals throughout the hotel, also in my honest opinion one of the best hotel spa's in Las Vegas! Not to mention the rooms are gorgeous, not sure how rates will be with the big event! Good luck :)

This is my favorite place to hang by the pool on my off days and the hotel/casino is beautiful. Steak house was also not bad :)

I agree, Red Rock is a lovely resort in Summerlin, with affordable rates, a great spa, movie theatre, restaurants and is within a leisurely walking distance to Downtown Summerlin shopping mall.

Parking is easy, Lyfts are in abundance, and a great way to experience Vegas for the night when the marathon is clogging The Strip.

Enjoy your visit!

Cell phone service absolutely blows at South Point, so if you're planning on relying on your phone, you can't.

I heard that at&t and verizon were looking into putting up towers last time I was there (~a year ago) so it might be better now.

I would never stay there but not for political reasons... I love the noise and chaos of the casino.  If I wanted piece and quite, I'd go to Barstow.

Thank you. I stayed there 3 years ago so I'm sure it has changed.

I agree, I used to stay at the Rio a lot and enjoyed it, I have stayed at the Westgate recently and it was nice enough.  Westgate has a great sports book.  Both are close to the strip if you need to go there or Fremont Street downtown they are easily accessible via uber or cab if you do not have a car.
