A simply request for locals as well as visitors to Vegas: What is your favorite hotel considering the balance between cost, location, amenities, rooms, ... you know bang for your buck stuff. All opinions welcome. This will be in November during the Big Smoke event held at the Venitian (too high $$$). You can post here or PM me directly. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

The Riveria is nice and close to the Venetian..Ihave stayed there 3 times and has been nice..

I am attending a seminar first of November and found Balley's rates were great off their web site. I called reservations and they didn't know about the web rate, so I made it on line

For saving dollars, Palace Station or any one of the other (and newer) 'Station Casinos' hotels is a pretty good deal.  If you do go to Palace Station, be sure you are booked into a room in the new 'high rise' tower as opposed to the old, two-story 'motel' section.  Its less than a mile off the strip but a taxi is highly advised - do not walk alone anyplace behind the strip and off major resort property.  

Best kept secret in town is The Barbary Coast on the corner of The Strip (Las Vegas Blvd) and Flmaingo.  Its nestled between The Flamingo and Bally's and right across the street from Ceasars Palace.  I'm told the rooms are very nice and it has Drai's nightclub in the basement which is reputed to be THE afterhours joint (3AM and later)where you can run into anyone from headliners to whores and pimps.  

Closer to the action but PERHAPS more reasonably priced, try The Monte Carlo.  Its a nice place but not of quite the same ranking as the Venetian, Bellagio, Mirage, Wynn/Encore.  TI (formerly known as Treasure Island would be worth a look too.  They have been working hard to ditch its 'Disneyland' image and get it back to being a place for booze, broads and gambling.  

If you need a good deal and want to be ON The Strip as well, try some of the older places like The Riviera or The Sahara or a bit further down the street, The Stratosphere.  Still may need a taxi to get up into the heart of the action though unless you just like to walk.  

IMHO, I wouldn't be caught dead in CircusCircus, its OLD Vegas where they intentionally make the rooms ugly and uncomfortable to prod you out of them and down into the casino.

I've stayed at several.  Liked the TI, the best.  2nd would be Bally's.  The Rio, off strip, all suites is great.

I like Hooter's. price is right & great location..

TI's a good choice as is Rio and even MGM. Vegas is very sloow right now so you should be able to get a promotion from either the casino/hotel website or a consolidater like travelzoo, travelworm or tripres.

Ballys was a bit musty smelling as was Harrahs last time I was there.

Mandalay has had a pretty good $109 rate going as a promo on their web site. It includes some freebies with it.

Luxor would be a good choice with the tower rooms. Their newer. Some of the Luxor pyramid rooms have not been refurbed in a while. Their north valet is also one of the fastest in Vegas.

Monte Carlo rooms would be another good choice. They took a hit with the fire damage and have been running some good specials. Parking and Valet can be a pain there though.

I'm not a fan of Hooters (old San Remo). But have not been there since they first took it over. They may have improved it but then again...

The big smoke is Nov 9-11, not sure if you want Nov 8-11 or Nov 9-12, I'd be leaning towards the latter as staying over a Saturday night can be expensive.

off strip: Hard Rock, Palms, Golden Nugget have good rates.

on strip: TI has the best rates and location, Mirage would be good because of location, followed by Monte Carlo, Luxor, NYNY due to value.

if you really want to cheap it out, Imperial Palace but it's a dump.  You can probably say the same about the Super 8 next to Ellis Island or the Best Western Mardi Gras near the LVCC.  Bill's, Flamingo, Tuscany, Candlewood Suites, Terrible's, Alexis Park, Riviera, Circus Circus, and Sahara.

....sounds like a great take, will have to remember that in the future.  I have a sports related hobby which will keep me away this year.

If you are looking for a casino that is usually cheap and has has a lot of amenities south of the strip you may want to consider South Point.  You will need a car, about 5 miles south of the strip.

Also try Gold Coast...rooms are surprisingly nice and easy in/easy out for da ladies...and $2 coronas for Jenny!!!

and nearby the Venetian, try Mirage, or Paris.  An easy walk to everything, nice places, nice restaurants on property or nearby.

The initial post here regarded a smoking event he is attending, and someone attacks his event for being a political view. Is this a political forum, where some Republican extremist has to bring in political hatred?  Im moderate politically, but about half the guys on here are Democrats, so does this guy automatically hate these democrats? Dont we have freedom of speech anymore?  I hope we stick to discussions of our hobby and beloved girls on here, and leave political intolerance to Stalin, and Hitler. Anyway, I hope the cigars go well, and I do recommend Hooters, and Paris.

Coast sold to Harrah's over a year ago, as I recall. Still has Drai's.

TI's kind of "meh" since they got rid of the theming, IMO. How many generic and slightly upscale casinos does Vegas need, anyway? How can you tell TI and Monte Carlo apart, really?

Also, I would dispute the idea that you can't walk off the Strip- I've stayed at the Platinum many times (Flamingo and Koval) and walked to the Strip lots, or to Ellis Island, which has some of the best microbrew around as well as 9/6 JOB video poker while you drink it- it's like free beer, as long as you don't drink to much and screw up your play- or to the Tuscany (nice Tex-Mex place there). I would avoid walking around the part of town going from Flamingo to Trop on the other side of I-15 out to, say, Arville, mind you, as it's rather skeezy (though that IS where a lot of strip clubs are, take a cab or rent a car), and the part of Downtown over past the Western isn't very nice at night, but being slightly off-Strip towards Paradise has never struck me as unsafe.
