I've been looking to line up a date on July 3rd (Fri) and July 4th (Sat). What kind of chaos should I expect from 4th of July weekend in Vegas? Should I book this far in advance? Any suggestions for providers in town at this time (especially out of towners who don't usually show up in search results).

If you can pick the providers this far ahead of time and take care of screening...more fun for you. If you have to change plans, let them know as soon as possible and contact them the day before you see them and earlier in the day to firm it up...goes a long way. Use TER as much as you can and use the providers that are consistent for being on time...unless you like taking chances. Just my .02 worth. Have a blast.
The World Series of Poker has been going on since late May and runs til mid July, breaks until November. WSOP has multiple events that usually last a day or three. It's happening at the Rio Convention Center (parking on the surface lot in the back of Rio that's closest to the conv center is packed).
Can't remember when the main event ($10k NL hold'em) starts but it's around that first weekend in July and who knows how many Day 1s there will be this year. There's a few days around the start of the main event where vendors will be showing poker related stuff. Maybe 6000+ players for the main event (last year was 6844 players). Not sure what the limit is for each Day 1 but it's probably around 2000 players.
Since it's free to watch (although some restricted areas near the TV tables), you get some people checking out tables.
I haven't seen any fireworks near the strip. Some of the surrounding neighborhoods might have some kind of fireworks show that you can see from the strip if the room is high enough. Given the dry conditions and the heat (still in the 90s at night), pyrotechnics aren't a great match.
Casino marketing might have some parties for invited guests.
The hotel pools tend to be packed. The pseudo-nightclub pool parties will have better DJs/celebs that weekend.
As a holiday weekend, rates might not be that great since they expect to be close to full. If you have a good player rating at a particular property, you might wait or call your host to see what kind of deals are available.
Hitting up the providers now is probably a great idea as you never know if they'll stay in town for the holidays. The review database here will help narrow (or expand) your choices. As for out of towners, you're gonna have to wait to see them post ads, which tend to be short notice here on the forum.
