Bet the table minimum on the pass line for a come out roll. When the point is made, place odds on the point equal to your bet and place on new minimum bet on the come field (this is essentially starting a new game). If you make your point on the come bet, take odds on that point and place another come bet. Once you have three points covered, don't place anymore bets until you get paid on your outstanding bets.

I have had a chance to partake in the free craps "lessons" at both MGM and Luxor. They run around 20 to 30 minutes and give you a pretty quick indoctrination into the game. As said before, there is a lot going on in this game so try to formulate a basic strategy as you pick it up. It also helps to just stand back and watch at times and if you have questions, the folks working the table are generally happy to help unless the table is packed.
Early morning is a good time to find an empty table for some "practice" and asking questions.
Go to gift shop and buy a card for playing craps. Two basic players are right way or wrong way bettors. Stay out of the sucker bets in the middle. Back stop would be playing 6 and 8. Always take the odds bets without it the house has a tremendous odds.
