Are parking garages/valet free on the strip?

Will be in town at the end of the month. Wont likely rent a car this trip so was curious what a typical cab ride might cost??
Say from
Airport to Excalibur
Was looking to see a show at Rio so Excal to Rio
I was looking to meet a particular lady that offers IC service off the strip. I have asked her but she hasn't answered but what might a cab ride cost to go a couple of miles?

Most of my time will be in the same area I am staying or off the mono rail. No plans to sightsee off the strip so no car. Might get a car one day just because the IC mentioned above might discount IC vs OC more than a rental would cost lol if that is the case I might take a day trip

Thanks for any advice !!

id all cab rides last trip, about 6, long one, over $20 each time.  Still cost less than renting a car.

I agree with Ol Des.... the cab lines suck!!!!  Unless you plan on drinking heavily and need a DD, renting a car is cheaper, and more convenient.  Depending on when you go, a car can be about $9/day.  I never opt for the insurance since my personal insurance covers rentals.

Getting a rental for one day may be dumb bc it will take about $20 to cab it to the car rental, for a $20/day car (nothing fancy).  Get a price quote from carrentals.com or something.  The shuttle alone will cost $15.  Then to go here and there....  plus the agony of waiting in the lines.  UGH!!!

Best of luck!

From the airport to the car rental place

Yes... the shuttle is free from the airport to the car rental, but he wants to get a rental for the middle of his trip for his date.  He will have to find a way back to the airport, or car rental place.  From Aria to car rental is $20 cab.  Excalibur, cheaper, but still....

it saves you time that you could be spending with a lovely Vegas provider.

Two cab rides in a day will cost you more than a day's worth of car rental.  There's almost nothing to consider, in my mind.

The monorail is on the other side of the Strip from Excalibur.  Just making that hike across the street is probably a quarter mile.  If your destination is another casino on the west side of the Strip, you'll have to take another hike to get back across.  It's just not worth the waste of time.

i have discovered when going for an extended period of time - the best value and easiest option in Vegas is to

1. Cab from airport to Hotel (Excalibur will be $10.00 + tip)
2. Rent a car from the Hotel and return to hotel (can even return to different hotel, if you move around)
3. cab back to airport.

NOTE:
-you have to pay extra fee for each day you rent a car that you pickup from the rental facility (I think it is around 8 to 15 per day, and additional taxes)
- You have to get on a bus to get to the rental facility - this takes around 10 to 15mins extra

Well I looked into one rental agency online. From the airport it's about $150 for 4.5-5 days. If I get it at the hotel it is double that !

I am starting to think, $50 IC discount x2 visits, $15 airport to hotel shuttle, $25 5 day monorail pass, $20+ cab ride to Rio for show (each way?), $70 for bus tour of History channel TV shows I can drive myself = nearly $200 saved so it seems to pay for the car rental plus I can go anyplace anytime !

Next I should talk to my car insurance agent to see if I can wave all those extras they push

The only other thing I am looking into is if the car rental company's have a shuttle between the lot and hotel like they do from airport to lot. Might just get a car for a couple of days instead

If I go with the rental option are the resorts on the strip charging for parking? I know many years ago when I stayed downtown they charged unless you were staying there. Seems they would want to offer free parking and get you inside to gamble rather than charge a fee to park and risk me going someplace else? Just had to ask

What about valet parking? never used that before in my life!

I would say the majority of the parking garages and valets are free - at least in my experience.   I just tip the valet

All hotels valet are free except for Hilton Grand Vacations hotel on the strip I believe they charge for parking daily.I always tip valet usually $5 but you can tip whatever you want. And self-parking garages are always free:)Downtown hotels also are free to park but I do remember a few properties back in the day you had to pay those are no longer around except 4queens downtown I think still charges for parking.

Be careful when asking for cab, some will claim to go the shortest/fastest route & it cost way more than average. If you want to cab it, ask the coincierge at the hotel to contact a few for you to ask for their rates. BTW, worse times to cab it are late afternoon/early evening esp. on Saturdays. Rio is off the strip so cab to it may be costly. I just take the shuttles from the airport to the hotel (its like about $13 roundtrip for most).
