This kchick wants me to take her to one on her day off but Im not into that junk.  Usually just hit Cheescake factory but this chick wants to try one from some specialty shop.  Any recommendations?  Sort of thinking of getting her some type of cream cake....maybe Urth Cafe??

Thanks

85 degrees.  Just opened a new location in Ktown on Wilshire.  They have fresh breads and Asian pastries, and a cold-case with the gourmet stuff.  Several other locations throughout LA and OC.  Everything I've had there has been fresh and delicious (Well, not EVERYTHING I've eaten in Ktown in general has been fresh and delicious, but at this bakery, it has.)

Inconsistent in my experience because they don't have the traffic to turn over the inventory enough. Oftentimes products are 3-5 days old.  85 turns it over every 24 hours.  Just depends whether freshness is a high priority for you. As long as you know how to tell whether it's old or not, those places are fine.

In DTLA, Bottega Louie. Loud but good scene and desserts. Worst place you can take her is a place in ktown!

the macarons are excellent. Pitchoun Bakery & Café on Olive is a nice choice as well. The selection of pastry items is more limited, although the Kouign Ammon is excellent, but very good as well at The Bread Lounge in the Arts District on Santa Fe.

Agree with your thought on 85. That's like recommending Starbucks when someone ask you where a good coffee shop is.....
You won't get a shit coffee there, but you won't get anything good there either. Paris is a bit better, but not by much though...
