K-girls

She wasn't making fun

Hi, I was asking a k-girl how to say "you are beautiful" in Korean, but she refused to teach me until after we were done.

Then she offered something that sounded like "Ya puda!".

I checked on Google translate, but the options offered sound totally different, so I wonder if she made fun of me.

Can anyone here fluent in korean shed some light?

Thanks

I am probably not romanizing this correctly (I'm not Korean and don't speak) but yeppuda means pretty.

I'm not Korean either and only know a few words, but I think you've got it.  Would more commonly be romanized "yeppeuda."  The "eu" is a peculiarly Korean sound kind of like the u in "put," but I find the Korean accent devilish hard to get right.

Another wrinkle is that apparently Korean adjectives can act like verbs. I'm already out of my depth, but OP, be assured your k-girl was giving you a straight answer.

Thank you guys. And yes, I master a few languages, plus I am comfortable communicating in a few others, and let me tell you: Korean is hard. Those sounds are hard to even reproduce and transliteration is so far from the actual sound it's mind-boggling ...

"puta" in Spanish, but a different meaning, of course?

All I can say is WFT -- I tried posting some hangul a while back and the admins rejected the message because of the "strange" characters hitting some virus trigger or something.

Anyhow, yeah learning Korean is not easy -- and in many ways that makes these ability of these girls being able to speak as much English as they do (yeah, I know, it's part of the public education they get and most will also get a refresher course as well for this work) as I suspect some symmetry in the learning process. Both DLI and the Foreign Service class Korean as a Class 5 language -- hardest level.

Good thing is there are some good online, and in many cases free, resources for those interested in picking up some  phrases. That helps me as I really cannot get the sounds right from the romanticized spelling and do better just listening and looking at the Korean language spelling.

I've meet quite a few asian girls who understand Spanish very well, especially street slang & derogatory terms.

That might be the difference, if you copied and pasted it from a website for instance.

I have a couple of books and CDs that say Korean is easy to learn. Uh-huh. When I check the authors who make that claim, sure enough, they're Korean. :-D

If too far off topic, just ignore or suggest starting a new topic ...

Here in the northeast, some K-girls or agencies have a policy to refuse service to K-guys (or all Asians if not certain). I assume it's to cut down on the chance meeting of someone who knows the girl or her family. Many K-girls live in K-town in Manhattan or Queens and, I assume, a lot of K-guys live in those areas, too. Nobody wants to hear, "Hay, don't I know you from the 'hood?"

What about LA? No restrictions? A small percentage of girls do discriminate?

A while back I used a virtual hangul keyboard to make a post and it was also denied, the reason was from the message board policies about keyboard characters.

solely at the discretion of the individual girl.  My own experience is that local girls that live in Ktown and work Mid-Wilshire (next door to Ktown) sometimes don't take Korean customers because they don't want to have any awkward moments running into them when they're not working at the grocery store, church, restaurants, etc.

Its similar in OC, where they have the largest Vietnamese community in the US.  Most Viet girls will not see Viet men in OC.  There are always exceptions among indies, but agency girls are pretty strict adherents.  Many Viet guys who speak Chinese will try to get through anyway, claiming to be Chinese, but if the girl knows they're Viet, then the guy can get blacklisted by the agency.  Interestingly, I've never heard of a Kgirl refusing Korean customers in OC because few of the girls live there, and it is all suburbia, so there is no concentrated community of Koreans in OC.  They're spread all over hither and yon.

Miniscule compared to LA Ktown and its miles from where the OC agency incalls are. Plus, never heard of a Kgirl that lived there, so my point that they don't want awkward moments running into customers wouldn't apply.

No, I have Korean language and keyboard on my laptop so can switch and type it in -- not a virtual keyboard but would not think that would matter as the character code in binary should be the same (maybe a couple of choice, don't know really) though now wondering if that is what I did rather than typing it as I would not have know the spelling in all likelihood. Maybe need to try to test that out on White Day or Black Day.

Yeah, that's what I always tell the girls when they say English is difficult: "No it's really easy, I didn't have any problems" (complete lie if you were to ask any of my English teachers from my school days ;-)

yep i havent had the chance to meet the notorious Love Kim as she doesnt accept korean clients. I know the booker well and she couldnt make any exceptions. one of a few reasons but i think she either may be a model or someone known in the korean community, or she has had more than one bad experience with k-men (which would be weird to me), or the chance of running into them in the area. Also Alexa wouldnt see korean guys for a while until she moved to another booker.

But for the majority of the korean girls have no problem seeing korean guys, if anything, its a huge plus and they like that they can comfortably speak to me. YMMV.

When i used to see VietKim in OC she even asked to see my ID to prove that im korean because she wont see vietnamese guys in the OC.
