For many whom have known me over the years, you will also know that my little girl, Sheeba, a brindle pit, has been my baby for the last 17 years. She traveled with me, comforted me, and even enjoyed some "ruf play" with some of you...

We have lost her ... her gentle spirit and kind soul has moved on to a better place. God gave her to me when she was just 6 weeks old...she endured 2 bouts of cancer, 10 puppies, and a wacko mom (that's me) for 17 years.  

I am not sure if this post will be approved, I am moderated, and I am not sure the "Florida discussion" quality that the post may possess, actually, I don't either. She actually was one of my "aliases" and used to post as "Diva Dog" occasionally and would post a pic or two of her, so I guess it is TER discussion related. I am just expressing my devastation to my friends and family on TER, ask for your prayers from my strength and just love and cherish everyone and everything close to you everyday, because it could their last.....

As I sit here in tears, I know I will never get over this loss. I am a mess...literally.  But, I will be back!  Better and stronger than ever...I appreciate the support and comments that I have received so far. Thanks for your understanding.

I know that many of us can relate to your pain.
We've been there....done that.
I also know that many of us feel deeply for your loss and are powerless to make the pain any less severe. We can extend condolences and offer our hearts....yet it won't diminish what you are feeling right now.

You....and Sheeba (through her alias...lol) have been part of our community for a long time. Personally I was fortunate enough to meet her one sunny afternoon. Even at her age she was loving, vibrant, and enjoyed the bit of Keezy's chicken that I slipped her when no one was looking....lol.

I'm moderated as well, so have no idea if this post will see the light of day......but if it does....you have to know that many of us care for you, feel your loss, are powerless to diminish your pain.....but care and pray for you very much.

We don't get "over" losing someone we care for.....but we get used to it....over time.
Difficult as it may be....try to focus on how fortunate you were to have her in your life...rather that the fact she has moved on now.

While the pain is deep now.......this too, shall pass.

Hey Toni, I am so sorry for your loss. I am a dog person myself and I know what you are going through. I felt worse over burying some dogs of mine than I did some relatives. Take comfort in knowing that you gave that dog a happy life for 17 yrs. Some animals aren't that lucky. AS my mom would say, he's up in dog heaven chasing squirrels, rabbits and scaring the hell out of cats. You did good Toni, you did real good.

I'm so so sorry your baby has passed. she was such a beautiful Pit. I remember when my fireball and Sheeba met, I was so worried my fireball would be filet, but Sheeba was so gentle and loving.
I feel for you and the pain you must be going through.

I had to put my Lab that I had for 12 years down two weeks ago. I know what you are going through. Words can't describe the loss one feels with the loss of a beloved pet. Hang in there.

They are part of our family and for me my child in many ways. 17 is a ripe old age for a larger dog with the best of care.

Sorry about your loss!  I recall the stories you told about her when you were in Vegas. Time will heal and you will always have the great memories.

Hang in there girl, for us dog lovers this is the heavy price we pay for years of dedication love and loyalty our dogs give us.

You have my thoughts and concern in my heart.What wonder this faithful companion has given you these many years.  The memories are good to have and help the healing.

There are no words right now. The only words of comfort I have is that she has moved on to a better place. A lot of us animal lovers call it the rainbow bridge. My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. You were very lucky to have this angel in your life. Xo

I am truly sorry for your loss. The fact that she lived 17 years is a real credit to the quality of loving care you gave to her. It doesn't lessen the pain you feel, but at least you know you were a good dog mommy.

I lost my dog in 2010 and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't miss her, so I can empathize with what you're feeling.

Sent you an e-mail...I know you too well and for too long to express my feelings over this here...

will be reunited with us when our time comes.  Even those with four legs and wet noses.  Toni, I'm so sorry that your baby isn't with you right now, but you'll see her again.  On this I have no doubt.

Had a Sheeba. White pit.  Sweetest dog ever till she got site of another animal then game on.  with people she was a cuddle dog.  We got her by chance.  A neighbor found a litter of puppies in the swamp and gave away the puppies as we could not find an owner.  We fed her and she came around for a few days and came in the house and I guess she approved us as kind of landlords.  She was a great but she was still missing the wild as every chance she got she would run off to the swamp and come back filthy or bloody or both.  As she got older we had many trips to the vet.  In the end It was one of the hardest things to do to have her put down. Just to show how sweet a dog she was I was home with my 3 year old son ans watching tv with my son and Sheena on the floor I dozed off and was woken bt a yelp and then a cry.  A moment of grogginess and my son has a small cut on his forehead but sheeba is sitting right next to him like nothing is wrong.  I ask what happened. He said sheeba bit hin I said what did you do.  its been 25 years and I still laugh at the asnwer.  All I did was stick this pencil up her but.  He woke her out of a sound sleep and all she did was flinch and turn around to see what was happening not a bite just a contact wound.  Fast forward 25 years and it is getting close again with 3 buddies a blond dog a red dog and a black dog.  you are right you will get through this but it will be part of you forever.  be strong.

Your emails, PM's, messages and posts here on the board have been so encouraging, much needed and greatly appreciated at this time.  I have been trying to prepare for this for a few years now, knowing that she was very old and her health was deteriorating, but you are never truly prepared. When I woke up this morning, my first morning without her, it was like a dream or at least I hoped it was.  People always say time heals all wounds. After losing my parents, I realize that sometimes it actually get worse. As the years pass, you miss them more. The shock and the sting of death is less painful, but the loneliness is worse and you miss them more as you travel through life and pass milestones where they cannot share with you.

I had always wanted to have her ashes and keep them with me. She passed while I was travelling and I had never left my wishes with her caretakers. They thought it best not to tell me, so they buried her in my back yard where she usually wanders.  They said they would remover her and comply with my wishes if I was not present. I decided to let her rest in peace. She is not there. And, she will be with me always anyhow, ashes or not. The memories & photos are forever.  

In any event, thank you all again so, so much for your love, comfort and support. I received messages from people I do not even know and it was very comforting.  I know most of us here are pet owners and animal lovers.  It is cliche, but please, enjoy every second you have with those (people and animals) you love. Life is too short and can be taken away from us so quickly.
