I had a hobbyist ask for a discount on a good review, I passed on the appointment......I would like to hear thoughts on this.

He asked if you would give him a discount, and in return he would give you a good review?

If so...

I usually pass on these types of sessions, as well, for a couple of reasons. First one being, I already offer a couple of different "discounts", being a VIP member, being a local resident, etc., on top of doing different specials on regular occasion. There's no reason to try and haggle for an even lower rate. Second being, there's no actual way to ensure that said client will leave a review - just his word, which honestly is meaningless. I'll occasionally offer discounts to those who have left me a review, for a second meeting in the future, just as a sort of courtesy and thank you to my regulars. But never ever on a first initial meeting. My last reasoning, being simply that fake reviews or over compensated reviews are easily noticeable. It can go one of three ways - One, being that the gent could feel that because you gave him he discount, he should go above and beyond in the review by over exaggerating - saying that you offer things that you don't, look different than your photos, etc., or even saying that you offered a discount. None of which helps us as a provider. Second, he could just leave, still a good, but very vague review that still doesn't really help or matter because no actual opinion or information is said in the review. In which case you still gave a discount for nothing. Third, in rare cases, he could be genuine and leave a truthful review about the time you spent together. This is all even guessing that he even leaves one in the first place.

I don't know. It seems like too much of a gamble to me. If you do one thing for one person, you're going to be expected to do it for all. If said client mentions he received a discount for a review, then others are going to expect you to do it for them, as well.

They are just cheap trying 2 get a discount.  A real hobbist would never ask 4 a discount for a review.

Clearly not a Gentleman and therefore probably not somebody you would want to entertain ....just my opinion

Aren't some new providers paying for fabricated reviews to build their reputations on here? It might be less expensive and better business to offer a discount which results in a legitimate review from someone that has spent time with you.
