Since you like to state things about rules, they should be true and not conjecture. Please post a link to where you found this.

Your original statement was very clear, and specifically mentions TER "rules".
For someone who wants to encourage new people to join the board, you should not provide inaccurate information for them to take as fact.
It is, yet again, just your opinion that you choose to make look real and credible.

At least you admitted it this time.

I have recently noticed a change in the board. New hobbiests are posting with 1 or little reviews. I hate to discriminate but Is this fair? Many providers have been scared off already by the new changes. What's your perspective? And no I'm not running for President/hostess/lifeguard!

the MAJORITY of them do not.

I can see where some girls might be a little trepidatious when it comes to those who post with 1 or no reviews. At the same time, it is not like this is a brand new development. Even if you prohibited such persons from posting, the TER boards are still public in that they are accessible for all to read, whether you are registered with TER or not. I would recommend using a little caution when writing posts simply for that fact alone, and not the issue that you are concerned with.

There ARE uses for aliases.
Most people who bitch about them, have used them. Double standard much?
No matter what system is in place, there are people who will abuse it. It's human nature.
This will also apply to the new, sanitized boards that so many claim to want.
Be careful what you wish for.

To answer the OP, number of reviews should not be a requirement to post.
It's the stupid, self-absorbed, and drama queens who should have their posts watched and limited.

I CAN understand why someone WOULD use an alias BUT...

THIS board is "on the edge" of "normal" society.

As Thewildthing, I get to enjoy a persona that I have created
& BECOME (to a degree) that is bold & confident & at times controversial.

In my civilian life, I avoid confrontation.

I CAN see where a hobbyist would like to have some fun under an alias

Yes, that is correct when you say that no matter what system is in place, there will be those who will abuse it.

In the case of aliases however, that system is inherently abusive and designed to stir up trouble and drama on the TER boards.

I've read the link you've provided:

Humor is often used at the expense of others (i.e. make fun of TER members).

If one is afraid of being harassed by making a post, then rely on the TER admins to stop the harassment (assuming they don't flip or reveal the alias for making such a post in the first place, as they have been known to do).

If one is  going to play devil's advocate simply for the sake of doing so, then one is stirring up trouble. Pick a side in a debate and then defend it vigorously, not for the sake of playing devil's advocate.

If one fears the "ballistic responses" of members, then trust TER admins to deal with those members.

I could go on and offer a rebuttal to every single one of those "alias" reasons, but I've made my point.

More trouble is caused by the use of aliases than problems are solved. If that is what TER wants for its boards, then so be it. But it is disingenuous to claim that the the use of aliases is a good thing for the TER boards. It's akin to saying that smoking is good for people since it "calms the nerves", albeit at the expense of its carcinogenic properties (causes cancer) and the resulting overall deterioration of the human body (calcium depletion, skin dehydration, etc.).

but ladies can have only one. For the men I guess that would be one way to get around any alias rule and no one would be the wiser. Not everyone is VIP unless they want to use the mail system here.

The VAST majority of the guys here lurk and do not review. I used to have a hard spot with this, but it is their right if they want to pay for their membership. Not reviewing makes verification harder and does detract from the boards, but it is still totally optional.  We need all the new blood posting here that we can get..

That's how TER generates its revenue, from paying hobbyists.  The ones that review, don't have to pay.

It has been noted in many  threads I have read through the years.

You won't find it in the rule book that a man can have only one profile nor does it state he can't  but you will find noted a provider can have only one. Call it the exclusion rule if you like or the reason why LE will ask a lady what she doesn't do so when she mentions no greek all else is on the table.

Guess it's pretty deep thinking for an alias to attache such thoughts and most definitely the real you as a member on this board doesn't have confidence in what he speaks.

Well we have all decided that there are good reason for an alias and bad ones. There are rules stated for the use of alias. Right? Well now it looks like it all comes down to enforcement of the rules for posting. If the rules are not enforced correctly then the rules are no more then suggestions. If the rules are followed for proper posting then there should be no reason a post can't be started by someone using an alias. If the post is started to create drama then it is up to whomever is approving the posts to decide if it should eb posted or denied.

I don't really follow what you are saying in your post, but the reason a lady can have only one account is that she can have only one provider profile and one set of reviews.  

It's not a double standard, just common sense.

You are sooo right though. There is no rule that an alias can't start a thread.  Does it make the poster less credible? Yea...but they do have the right to ask questions, comments, etc.

The sad part is with all the negativity and drama going on more and more new people will get frightened and go elsewhere.  We all have issues in our personal lives and this board needs to be fun to escape the craziness in our lives!!!

That is exactly correct. Rules are almost meaningless unless they are enforced and applied to all TER members. However, the rules are sometimes not applied fairly nor equally to all, for whatever reason/excuse/justification offered. This results in the appearance of favoritism.

Wild Thing, we have never met however I am a LONG time member here with many reviews dating back to 2002......  With that to establish my credibility here is my view on the above portion of this thread.  The direction this board has taken of late opens the strong possibility that some of the people who have created the disrubtion of controls would create another profile and post JUST to say negative things about others.....  As long as they do not post or log on from their primary PC and location the IP would be different and virtually not traceable to that person.....  I personally hate turmoil and there unfortunately are those who thrive on it........ They live to create it....  Steping off my soap box.

ALIASES can be viewed in 2 different ways:

That it is a cowardly & sneaky way to be a jagoff OR...
that this is a place of fantasy in many ways & people PAYING to "play" here,
should be allowed to live their fantasy roles here
(however many roles that may be).

I am going to continue to CHOOSE to look at it as the latter.

Eventually their personalities show and they get chased away or just disappear.

I read the posts from the gents and ladies and evaluate in my head what I feel is someone who is possibly abit unstable. Remember I said "possibly". Trust me when I say I am not the only person that does this and has been doing this for years!!!

Those that I feel are unstable or have issues....well I just avoid. Sometimes when a gent or a lady is all over the boards it shows me a side that I just want to avoid.

I pick and choose what I post too as I have much more important things to be doing then get involved in alot of the stuff that is going on these days.  Just a HUGE waste of time and energy when we can all be having sooo much more fun!!!

The Florida board is still relatively uncontaminated with the alias scourge, though it will ruin your board, too, without effective moderation.  That's why cutting DD loose in the end was such a bad idea.  He knew the personalities here, and gave everyone enough rope either to establish themselves with meaningful discourse, or hang themselves with their own noose, so to speak.

The most justifiable reason to use a alias, I believe, is to protect the identity, or relationship with a lady. To share a story, or relevant comment and not tie it to a specific date does give us freedom.

What is NOT appropriate is taking a strong position, especially when it results in attacking other members while hiding behind an alias is not only unacceptable....it's spineless.


There has been recent discussion regarding scoring on both the Florida and Atlanta boards. To his credit, the OP raised the question, but did so with his review history on full display. However, a barrage of attacks were unleashed against inflated scoring....but done so by a couple of alias's who were able to viciously rant and attack....but doing so in a cowardly and, ultimately meaningless manner by hiding. Kind of a "Do as I say, not as I do".   Their arguements hold no value, and serve only to disrupt civil discussion without fear of repercussion.

Alias usage should be used to protect someone else....not as a get out of jail free card.
