For anyone who has seen, or heard, about the events of yesterday on this board....I'd like to take a minute and explain some things....and clear some things up.
If you haven't heard...don't worry about it...the details aren't important.

Recently a post went up on this board discussing a party with a link to a review attached.
A post of this type is, according to rules, not allowed on this board and belongs on either the ad board, or the M&G board.

My allowing this post to stay was not out of ignorance of the rules...or showing any kind of alleged favoritism.
My intention was to allow the post to stand for a short period of time...nothing more. It was going to be moved this morning. I allowed it to stay out of a sense of fun, and an attempt to liven up the board a bit. Lately we've haven't had much other than theme day posts...and my intent was for people to have a chance to see the post and the review....because it deals with another way to enjoy 'this thing of ours' that some people either aren't aware of...or might be intimidated to consider.
The post, in my opinion, related to a topical subject of this site and this board....so I felt it should stay for a short while before being moved to it's proper place.
My call.....my intent....that's all.

Now normally something like this is barely a blip on the radar screen. No big deal and, if someone has an issue, they usually PM me.
That's the way things work....and the way things should be done.
It's not the way things were done in this case...and things got out of hand. Pretty quickly actually.
When people take it upon themselves to air their gripes on the open board, rather than address them to the moderator, it opens things up to comments and unfortunately, even attacks on the board.
This is not what should happen, and hopefully won't happen again in the future.

There is a system in place and it works if you use it correctly. Address any concerns you have about the board to me, the moderator. That's why the site has us doing this gig.
If you don't feel you get the satisfaction you are looking for (and no....that doesn't mean an automatic agreement or getting things your way) then you can take your concern to the admin staff or the 'contact us' link.

While I have no control over the gossip, backchanneling, and misinformation being tossed around...I therefore cannot control whether or not someone believes they will get an honest chance to air their thoughts or concerns.
All I can control is guaranteeing that I am here to do a job, do it fairly, and listen to everyone equally. Whether individuals choose to believe that or not, is on them.

Anything I do is for the betterment of the board as a whole, and not any individuals. Trust me...there's no other reason to do this gig, as I don't have a lot of frequent flyer miles on the TER private jet.
As I have said from DAY ONE....this is YOUR board and it is what you make of it.
So far...you've made it the best damn board on this site! You should all be proud of yourselves. I'd like to see that continue...and the only way to do that effectively is by following the procedures for getting your questions and concerns addressed.

Most boards are boring as Hell & Dead. Train Wrecks are GOOD !

I know bad idea.  But people are people and can get bent out of shape and go off.  I have to say that theme day while it is enjoyed, it has taken over the board.  Just does not feel as chatty as is was a while back.  But yesterday made up for a lot I hope all involved got it off their chests and or minds.

For me, the original post with the link to the Masquerade Party review worked exactly the way you intended it to work. I was aware of the event, intimidated to consider participating, and curious of how things went down. The review was well done, and certainly put me more at ease as far as joining in on the next opportunity.
What followed was definitely a turn off. Regardless of what side you take, personal attacks are not sexy.
All in all, I'd say another job (unpaid) well done by you DD...thanks

I have to say that I have the utmost respect for you DD. You are doing a thankless job where no matter what you do, someone will be getting pissed off. To everyone who complains about something our moderator does (or doesn't do), remember that he is the one who stepped up & volunteered to moderate this board. Nobody else did- not the complainers, not the whiners, not the jackasses & certainly not me. Simply put, play by the rules people & try to show a little respect for everybody on this board & for DD as well

glad DD has this one.  It is a great one, and his work has helped to make it so.  My job is a piece of cake with Ohio and the Newbie boards to moderate.

Keep up the good work DD.  Oh, yeah, forgot to add, I'm really getting rich like he is being a mod.....LOL

I recently posted a reply to a photo thread and it was removed as not allowed.

Yet a few days ago several ladies posted replies to some of the photos and they were allowed to remain (and still do).

Replies to photo threads are allowed on other boards, but not here.

Why are the policies not uniform across all boards and people?

These posts have long been allowed to stay up, including one on the recent Tampa M&G.  What should have been taken down is the inappropriate reply.

As someone who did this thankless job for a long time (6 boards) you were absolutely right to leave it up there.  It's the needless complaint posts by the same few that should be removed for not being topical.

Yes...comments on theme day pics are not allowed on this board, and the Atlanta board. It is a case of a few, taking things too far and causing a ruling (by the board members) to be made. Comments turned into full on discussions that eventually shadowed and diluted the threads. You can see the same thing on some of the Provider Friday threads....and actually that will be dealt with soon as well.

Not all boards have the same policy on theme day threads. This is because these threads are outside the normal scope of the site, and just sort of evolved. Each board, which is driven by the members, establishes it's own tone and personality. While it may be difficult to keep track of these things when posting to several boards.....try modding some of these different places....lol. Atlanta is WAY different from Boston which is WAY different from Florida.

Yes...you are correct that some comments by ladies were made on the Saturday thread. Bottom line with that is I just didn't catch it. If I did see it, it didn't register. Once in a while I do try to get away from this stuff and have some semblance of a life for a few hours.
So we'll put that in the "Daego fucked up" column....lol.
I've since removed the posts for continuity.

For those of us who look at several boards on a regular basis we can sometimes forget what rules apply to each board.

I agree that some comments became full discussions, but must say I do miss some of the banter that did occur.

Nice to know that you will also address the Provider Friday thread as well.
