just interested in knowing peoples thoughts about setting up appointments via text.  I prefer it even though the agency I use does not use them.  The independents I see generally do.  For me it is just more discreet.

I'm always amazed how lax some people are when they try to text me. Those questions would get the phone hung up in their ear had I been talking to them. There's nothing personable about texting so the gentleman's personality doesn't show through unless he's just an ass with nasty comments. It's the worst form of communication for me.

Now for the legal aspects .... there's a so called carbon copy live and well waiting to be subject to a subpena for 2 years. That in itself is enough for me not to text.

.....I find it rude, like call waiting, which I disable.  If I could find a way to block all text messages, I would.

When arranging a date with a new freind, initial contact is made via e-mail, followed by a phone conversation.

I agree it's rude for people to communicate vulgarly.  And I'm not naïve enough to think anything electronic is not stored somewhere.  And you should always use a non-traceable phone.  But consider this...

CELL PHONE COMPANIES DON’T STORE MESSAGES

Even the cell phone companies express an inability to save or extract text messages. A T-Mobile spokesperson said that the company can’t discuss the issue at all.  The executive director of media and industry analyst relations for AT&T Wireless said that he knows of no way to save a text message, other than just not deleting it from the hand set. He said AT&T stores text messages for 48 hours to ensure they are delivered, and then deletes them.

Verizon Wireless agreed that the only way to keep a message is to keep it on the handset. She said that her company does not keep text messages on their servers for any length of time. However, if there are messages that are retrievable, a subpoena is required to get copies of them.

The text and photo messages cycle through the servers, and then are no longer available if the phone company does not store them. If Verizon gets the court order in time, it will save the messages for a bit of time. “We don't disclose the length of time (except to law enforcement), but it's not lengthy and can vary -- but you can think of it as days not weeks or months,”  they said

you are already a gent that I have seen and you have my number. However,
I will generally ask the gent to email me as I don't always have my work phone
with me and my email goes wherever I go.

In the last few months I changed my number and removed it from all my
ads.  Therefore, the only way to set up an appt. with me is via email.
I LOVE this as it really weeds out the gents who are not sincere.

Personally, I don't think communicating via text is very personal or discrete.
Too many people can get ahold of a cell phone faster than an email with
a password on it.

Again...just my humble opinion.

I also never post my number even if it is a seperate throw away phone. I will never meet a gent unless a phone conversation commences after screening. I need to hear his voice (if we have not met before) and it sure does help with the anticipation.

I won't see just anyone so insist on getting to know someone a bit by way of an email introduction and exchanged correspondence. Someone who sends me a one line text inquiry without so much as sharing a name not to mention what they're requesting with regard to time and place. Text takes waaaaay too long too. If someone only wants an hour appointment why would we ladies want to spend between 15 minutes up to an hour exchanging text messages while we figure it out. I kind of take text messages from persons I've never met before as an insult to my intelligence, my obvious online persona and a clear set of standards as listed on the "connect" page of my website.

I also often ignore out-of-the-blue phone calls looking for last minute availability after the hour of 8 or so. I figure that whoever it is on the opposite side of another area code knew they were coming to town and if they want the time of a well-reviewed and in-demand provider he most definitely should have called ahead. I don't have a set of laws that I follow and people have caught up with me as late as 10 PM before but it's more likely that I won't pick up. As with anyone - it just depends on my mood. : )

Happy Holidays All!
