A hobbyist scheduled to see me for a 2 hour session 3 weeks ago for my tour here to Chicago. During my 3 weeks I had MULTIPLE conversations with this hobbyist. Some lasting almost an hour. Now I know this was really dumb on my part, but being new in the business I prefer to really get to know the hobbyist I that schedule appts with me, in hope that will help us to have a wonderful session. I see some, like the one I'm discussing, clearly will take advantage of someone like me.
Anyway, this hobbyist scheduled to see me on Monday @ 10pm for a 2 hour session. I was calling him on Monday to make sure he was still coming at 10pm. He intentionally ignored my calls. Finally he calls at 6pm saying he went out with a friend, ate something that did not agree with him and was too sick to have his scheduled appt with me and wanted to schedule for the next day.
Fine! He said he would call and me the next day to let me know what time we would meet. He did, with another BS story about the cable guy coming to his home. Again, he BS'd me, said he would meet with me this morning at 9am. I received the text from him saying " Good Morning Jordan I am on my way. What is your rate"?
WHAT IS MY RATE??!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!!
Chatting damn nearly every other day for 3 weeks. emailing back and forth, not to mention he booked the damn appt through my website, so I know he saw what my rates were.
I kindly responded back to him through text telling him to check my rate page again. He responds back stating he thought it was a cheaper rate per our conversations and TER. First of all, I would NEVER discuss rates over the phone with someone I don't know or met.
I even told him the price he thought it was we could have worked something out. He refused to pick up the phone to work this out, and just continued to text "well thought the rate was this......." " That rate is a little out of my league."
I know, I know! I was a little to nice, but providers admit it. We all have met hobbyist who we have dinner with and talk to OTC. My dumb behind thought I was making a new friend.
Some hobbyist may not know it takes A LOT of time and money for a provider to tour. For a hobbyist to BS a provider about what they thought there rates were or are, and to reschedule appts back to back to not show up is really disrespectful!
This definitely taught me a lesson. I will not be a little less friendly when meeting potential clients. Definitely see why providers use screeners.
That's what I'll be doing from this point on.
Lesson definitely learned!!!
