While Ozzie was entertaining, his act got old and it was no longer working.  However, I blame Kenny Williams and his scouts more for the lack of wins in the South Side.

Alex Rios, Adam Dunn, Jake Peavy have been utter disasters.  Gordon Beckham is a bust and few of the draft picks have panned out at all.  Plus, why was Kenny so obsessed with getting KC Royals players?  They suck!  McDougal and Teahan are prime examples.

We'll see what happens in the offseason.  At least we won't be on Operation 104 and Counting.

They both were candid interviews and definitely didn't lack personality. People loved them for their tirades and their acts seemed to always entertain. Unfortunately, everything gets old, especially when you don't win.

Just like Ditka is beloved as "Da Coach", Ozzie's haters over time will remember him for bringing the World Series to Chicago in 2005.

Too much pissing to mark territory and testosterone.  Starter in Chicago during freeze ass April should not throw much more than 100 or so pitches because its too frickin cold and the hitters should take batting practice at night because of all the night games. When then are playing catch up for the rest of the season. Buehrle, Konerko, yes good players, but the farm should be bringing new prospects up right now anyway.

Kevin Butler was the leading scorer the championship year, which means we didn't punch it in alot. Plus, with a defense like that always giving you the ball on the opponents 35, you should win a champtionship. Yeah Ditka had personality. Actually the whole team did. But Ryan didn't get the props he deserved.

I'm really just a Chicago baseball fan, grew up watching Cubs and Sox on WGN. Tilt a bit towards Cubbies, but I'll miss Ozzie as well. With the exception of last couple weeks I think his teams played hard and generally played pretty good intelligent ball. Without his personality, the Chicago baseball scene will be very dull next year, since both teams will be the poster kids for "mediocre". Plus, he's in a bad situation down in FL. Owner there is meddlesome. Think there was tension between Ozzie and Kenny? Ozzie and Loria will be terrible. Honeymoon won't last through spring.

It's been a depressing 24-hours, to say the least. I know everyone has strong opinions about Ozzie, but I'm terribly sad to see him go as he was the best damn manager that team had seen in a long time. Like him or not, he's the only manager in baseball with an actual personality and even on bad days, he made the game interesting. And he brought something to this city that we hadn't seen in 86 years.

And if we indeed did just watch Mark Buehrle pitch his last game in a Sox uniform, then maybe it's time to turn on the waterworks. Waaah! The last remnants of the 2005 time are almost all gone now.

Aaah, remember that beautiful October 6 years ago...

Last night while watching the Sox game me and my friends came up with a list of Chicago athletes we'd let do our wives at any time.  The list was

Buerhle
Dan Hampton
Ryne Sandberg
Patrick Kane
Jonathan Toews.

I will miss Ozzie.  I sad to see him go.

The team needs to make some changes, no doubt.  But Buehrle is not one of them.

That is baseball.   Players/Managers come and go.   These days change is the constant. (Actually in almost all Sport)

But, every year is a fresh start!  We fans forget the pains of the prior year (years for you Cubs fans!) and look forward to winning it all this new year!

"I am glad to be here, hope I can help the team..."

Only 191 days til the White Sox Opener in Texas!!!

October of 2005 was indeed one of my favorite months of all time.

Was at Game 2.  The feeling I experienced when Pods hit that ball was one of the greatest feelings I have ever had in this world.

Thanks for the post and bringing back that memory!!!

Amen!  The problem usually starts with the GM, and his staff.  As someone else points out, the Sox haven't produced enough new talent in recent years.  The current Sox stars are getting old- and expensive!  Ozzie is a decent manager, but he didn't have enough talent, and that's up to the GM.  I don't think Kenny is included when the top GM's are listed.

Frank Thomas came in at #6.  If Walter was still with us he would have made the cut.  Jordan was talked about but we agreed as a no vote on him as who knows where he's been.  Peppers has to make a big contribution to Da Bears to make the list.

Would love to see them get to the Series. I'm also pulling hard for the Rays. Love Joe Maddon and the job he has done.

Miller Park would be fun to go to for a World Series game . . .

Will never forget that night as long as I live. Was in left field, not far from where Konerko deposited his grand slam. And had a great view of Pods' game-winner.

I hugged a lot of strangers that night after the big win. Hell, who knows, I may have hugged you!!  But, you probably would remember because if I would have hugged you I probably would have been a slob and grabbed your ass at the same time!!!  LOL!!!

2005, what memories . . . .

You're right, he did have a special "personality", LOL. Somewhat like Ditka when things weren't going his way. Problem with Ozzie was he was a little too dark to see all that blood rushing to his face, something we never had a problem with identifying in Ditka nor our previous beloved Mayor who made my TV light up with bright red colors on numerous occasions. I'm gonna miss Ozzie's mispronounced Spanglish, his flaring temper along with the F word flying freely, and the excellent way he brought da sout siders to the ultimate victory. For us nort siders, there's always next year. Never fear, there's always next year.

Ozzie's off to go boating in sunny Florida where it never snows. Now why would anyone want to move there? I don't know...

Oh, the good old days of growing up a soutwest-sider and hanging at Comiskey getting drunk. I did it so many times that by the last time we partied there, we had a portable TV and were watching the Cubs in the playoffs while the Sox were getting their asses kicked. That was my last trip to a baseball game on da sout side, long before you made your appearance on the scene dear ChiA. Hold up da sout siders Andrea and BTW, could you wear a cute cheerleading outfit with those long legs? :-)

Wow...

I recall looking at the scoreboard with Pods up...

At Bat: 22
Strikes: 2
Balls: 2
Outs: 2

I just felt he was going to hit a homer!  Next pitch - BAM!

Like PW, I was hugging strangers...  Did not see any sexy ladies, so Andrea must not have been in section 109/110...

I also felt that the Series was a lock after that event.    Geez, now I have to dig out my WS DVDs and watch it again!!

I forget the year(s).. but there was a period where the White Sox played 'home' games up there...

So yea, I will break with my tradition of supporting the AL team in the WS this year if the Brew Crew make it all the way.

Andrea
Great posts on our favorite team . I agree Andrea watching those games last night brought the joy of baseball back to me after this horrendous season. I also agree that the Brewers are my playoff favorites.
Lastly, loved the 2005 White Sox You Tube. Thanks so much.
