Ok, I've heard all about pizza in Chitown and since I'm finally making that trek to your fine city, I've got to try authentic Chicago pizza while I'm there.

I've booked my personal trainer for extra workouts just so I can indulge while visiting!

So where can I get a slice (or two) on or near the Magnificent Mile?

It doesn't have to be fancy just mouth watering good!

One does not enjoy Chicago Pizza by the slice.  One needs to experience the true Chicago Pizza opportunity.  Off Michigan avenue is the reknown Pizzeria Uno.  Order a small and eat what you can.

I don't feel there is any good pizza downtown.  If you want the tourist stuff, there is Pizzeria Due, Uno's and other joints that have been around for quite a while. If you want that super deep dish or pan stuff, those places will fit the bill. I like thin pizza and I  like Giordano's pizza. There is one near Chicago Ave and Rush street. That's pretty good.

Now, if you jump in a cab and head to the northside of Chicago, there is Pizza D.O.C which I think is great.  Frankly, I think the best pizza in Chicago is Home Run Inn. The original one is a few miles west of where the Chicago White Sox play.  It's a cab ride from Michigan Ave, but I think these two places are the best pizza in Chicago.

Gotta go with Gino's East. Uno used to be the best.

My opinion only, check them out. They have a few locations around the city. Go to the website Lou Malnati's and give it a look. Some tasty pie!

Pizza  Uno  or other locations  Pizzeria   Due     founder   Ike Sewall   Started the Chicago style Pizza  for those of you who do not know .  Lou  Malnati worked for him learned  his craft then opened his own place and the rest is history.

Lou Malnati's and Pizzano's (Both are the same... One is the uncle and the other is the nephew).  They are both on State St., 2 blocks away from each other or they have satellite's around the northside.

The other... Pat's Pizza.

Remember, you can always put a temp on a pizza.  Thin crust and you like it crispy...  Tell them "well done".

P.S.  Bonus Chicago food must:  Portillo's for an authentic Italian Beef or in the burbs Johnny's in Elmwood Park.  Chicago has the best Italian beef sandwich...  This is a MUST as well as our pizza pies.

You could cab it to Home Run Inn, it's worth the trip. There us a Giordanos in the Loop (Adams?) I went there when I stayed there a few weeks ago. Their garlic bread is fantastic too

for those beef sandwiches. He says Italian beef sandwiches are even better than the pizza! he told me to dip it in the sauce offered!

He loves ya'll 'cause I booked extra workouts with him this week and next week before I leave for Chicago.

Long time Chicagoan, but really not a fan of deep dish pizza, so my opinion on that (which would be Gino's East) is not even worth much to me.

Best Chicago style thin crust (which means cracker crust) is Vito & Nick's, but that is way too far away.

If I was on the Mag Mile and had to have some pizza, I would take a short cab ride to Coalfired Pizza and have a magnificent, light, fresh, Neapolitan pie. Link below, and address is 1321 W Grand. A little closer and of some interest, is D'Amato's which does the traditional, Sicilian pan pizza by the slice, as well as some very tempting baked goods. That is at 1124 W Grand.

All three beat the pants off Uno/Due, Lou M's, Gino's East etc.

While doing some searching online to see where the three places mentioned were located, I came across an interesting article (see attached).  It seems that all three places were opened by the same guy, Burt Katz.  Very interesting.

Lou Malnati's deep dish sausage pizza with a couple of cold brewskies the only way to go.

I agree with  Ashley Marie ,  The original  Chicago style pizza,  Pizzeria  Uno  & Due  I personally have  gone to  Pizzeria  Due  more then any other and always get  one of Chicago's  finest pies in town.
