On my blog, if you scroll down past the interviews with Chicago escorts, you'll now find interviews with Chicago hobbyists.  Interviewing hobbyists offers its own challenges, but I took it up on a suggestion from an escort.  Enjoy.

This blog is an excellent web publication —and a fine contribution to this domain of activity.

I have just one problem: the term "hobby" to describe what is much more than that.

This activity, I think, might best be categorized as a "sexual preference."  Given that so many other activities, once stigmatized and now celebrated, classify themselves such, even pleading for special rights and recognition under that banner, why has not the world of "providers" and the men to whom they provide not given some thought to doing the same?

This is not, after all, a forum about woodworking, model trains, knitting, amateur radio or stamp collecting.  [Not that there's anything wrong with that.]

I don't have a proposal for a substitute word, but perhaps someone would lie to suggest one.

Yes, the term "hobby" is vague, but it  was likely meant to be so.
Unfortunately, standard language reference works like the OED
don't shed light on 'hobbyist' or 'provider' as we use them.

My preferred word for a provider is courtesan, but the term
courtesan refers to a specific type of provider.

As for hobbyist, that's a tough one.  The best hobbyist on the best days
are gentlemen, bur that's a term that doesn't always apply.

The language of the hobby bears further research.  Thanks for
bringing it up.
