Yesterday I was set to see a provider that has great reviews. We established the time to meet the day before, confirmed the morning of. I drove into the city and seeing as Chicago traffic is unpredictable I gave myself an hour. I emailed the provider that I was leaving and she told me to text her when I got to the hotel and she would get me the room number. Traffic was really light and got downtown in 30 minutes. I texted the provider that I was close to the hotel and early. I told her to text me when she was ready and to get me the room number. This was 30 minutes before we were to meet. I didn't hear anything back. Previous reviews said that the provider was often a little late, like 15 minutes so I didn't think anything of it. I ended up going to a coffee shop across the street from the hotel and waited for a response. I didn't get any response until 45 minutes later-about 15 minutes after our scheduled day was supposed to start. It was an email asking where I was. I emailed back immediately saying I had texted her when I got downtown 45 minutes earlier as she asked but that I was ready to meet and across the street from her hotel. I also included my cell number in the email. She immediately responded that she never got my text. I texted her phone again asking for the room number and got nothing back. I then asked her to email me the room number and she responded I hope you are downtown and we were running out of time. At that point I called her number and got a google voice message immediately saying the person I was looking for was not available. I have never knowingly contacted someone with google voice so I don't know if this is a google voice issue where she could have been contacting me and wasn't getting the messages for some reason? Was this a provider just standing me up? I have tried contacting the provider through email since then but haven't gotten any response. Overall, I'm not upset with the provider I just don't want her thinking I stood her up because I would love to see her at some point. I'm more confused than anything and if anyone has an opinion to please let me know. And if you feel I did something wrong, please let me know.

While a useful and discreet tool, GV is prone to technical problems.

I cannot speak to whether or not the woman in question stood you up or whether you two fell victim to said glitches. I can, however, tell you that my phone has been unable to accept incoming Google Voice calls for about a month and a half.

I have tried uninstalling & re-installing it to no avail. I don't want to sign up for a new number, so I have just modified my communication methods to work around the problem.

Just my two cents!

Good luck. :)

Google Voice has been very unreliable as of late to the point I just stop using it.   If the provider is a reputable one (and also uses GV) she should be understanding of the technological problems.

I have contacted providers and followed up with emails (albeit not at the time of the appt), their response was they never recieved my voicemail.

Asiantantric provided a good idea of getting a "hobby phone" and buying minutes strictly for the hobby.

Good luck!

I have used GV on a personal phone and love it because I could read my emails on what was said in the VM. It was easier for me to see if it was someone I need to call back ASAP.

My confusion on this thread being about GV, when the guest text messaged plus emailed before the appointment.  Since most of us are up on our technology, I get emails just as fast as text messages.  But I don't use text messaging for appointments, I prefer a phone call. My smart number doesn't support text messaging but my gmail account does............ I can select chat on my gmail email and text message people from my computer.
With technology and being downtown, I always have issues with signal but then again I have T-Mobile which sucks.
There are so many different ways of communication there should be no reason for anyone to miss out on an appointment from either side of the fence.

Can't blame everything on the App World..... We are all human and error comes with that.
Just my $.02
