I believe the term in the original post, little people, is the most appropriate.

The word "midget" is an offensive slur. "Little person" or "dwarf" are acceptable.

Because little people can also mean short people as in 5'5" and under. Or it can dwarf size as in under 4'8".

I've actually only known one midget in my lifetime and he had no issues with the term midget.
