Ah, Chicago in summer! What could be better than hitting the beach with a good book and soaking up the warmth? So what's everyone reading here in the Windy City. Admittedly, I've already got a pretty long list of books both on my list and that have been recommended. Plus, for some reason summer always inspires me to crack open a few favorites (it's hard not to sit in the summer sun without a copy of Lolita at my fingertips). But damn it, I'm an ambitious lady, and I want to add more to my list! So...what's everyone got on their summer reading list?

I am about to start reading, "End This Depression Now" by Paul Krugman. I am a big fan of Krugman.  I think he really gets this economic mess we are in.  I just finished the three famous books by Dan Brown, "The Da Vinci Code", "Angels and Demons", and "The Lost Symbol".  I loved them all.  I heartily recommend them.  Happy reading and happy hobbying!

Ah yes, I saw Krugman the other night on The Colbert Report. It sounds like a very interesting read. Thanks for the suggestion!

Green Eggs and Ham is on the list also.

Yes, I also saw him on the Colbert show and that's what prompted my Amazon purchase.  It should arrive any day now and I plan on reading it on my vacation.  What are you reading now?  Lolita, one more time?

Stephen Kings " Gunslinger " series is an all time fav.

Probably start with A Book of Memories, and then if I like his style, I will move on to his new one, Parallel Stories. From what I have read, the latter is something one can, almost has to, take a lot of time to absorb, but that is okay because it works best as vignettes, no so much stories.

Nothing like a master of sexposition to keep the summer sizzling.

His "Rogue Island" won the Edgar Award for First Novel. Just finished it and I'm now reading his second book in the series titled "Cliff Walk." Getting scary.

Just starting my first novel by Janet Evanovich. it's called "Motor Mouth." It's about NASCAR racing from the perspective of the only female spotter in the Cup series. One section discussed a team member's problems:

"I don't do nothin' right. Even my wife left me. I didn't do nothin' right there either. ... She said I didn'tknow nothin' about the man in the boat. The man in the boat don't like to be woke up in the middle of the night.And the man in the boat needs to have the oar in the water longer than thirty seconds. I tell you, there was a list a mile long about the man in the boat. Do this. Don't do that. Half the time, I couldnt even FIND the man in the boat.........."

Jeezzz, does that sound familiar?

But so far it's a fun read that turns into a sexy murder mystery.

Rachel Maddow is very high on my list of lady crushes! Just put that on the list!

Maybe you should add "Where the Wild Things Are" in honor of the late Maurice Sendack.

Speaking of seeing authors on Colbert, did you see any of the segments with Sendak (I googled the spelling   )?  They were hilarious!

Forgive my misspelling! But yes, Sendak and Colbert were a riot together!

And another summer reading contender: "I Am A Pole And So Can You!"

The passages about "the man in the boat" got my attention when I was browsing in the book store. She's a very descriptive writer.

Agreed, Giselle. There aren't too many writers who can incorporate first person sex with motor sports like she does. And she throws in a good deal of humor with the mystery/adventure story line.
