Obviously JK. Everyone has desires/fantasies and definitely desires/fantasies that are more/less appealing. For example, I really love slave/daddy-daughter role-play ... but leather/latex, outdoor sex and receiving/giving golden showers doesn't really do it for me.

I think it takes a while to be comfortable to express them with a client... but you can definitely get a sense of kinda- what those fantasies are from websites (i.e. submissive/dominant/uber-playful, cerebral/visual/emotional/material) and blogs. And a good way to test is to just say "So what do you think of [insert fantasy/desire here] kinda porn" and see how the person reacts.

Most ladies will share what makes them tick especially if they know it makes you tick.  With that said, there are few things more erotic than letting your companion take the lead and push the envelope as you go along for the ride.  

If your wish is to have indulge a fantasy or desire of her own, just ask the question and if your with the right friend, you'll have the time of your life.

If you wish to explore beyond the norm. then communicate with the ladies you enjoy seeing and politely ask how *open minded/uninhibited* they are, or might consider being. If they're not the type to explore beyond the norm of sensual passion and yet you desire more kink and adult pleasure outside the norm.
Then seek out women who enjoy & already partake of the uninhibited adult pleasures, that you want to explore & enjoy.

I know some men can be shy & timid around certain women. But women are not mind readers. And unless you communicate your wanton desires (in a respectful & tasteful) manner. Then your ATFS will never know how far outside the norm you wish to go exploring.
