I just read six different articles (from six different sources) on this murder. All of them were written in the past 48hrs, some posted as recently as an hour ago.
The woman was an escort and had an ad. on backpage. There is nothing, at this point that I can find, that suggests that the crime has anything to do with her being an escort.
This could just as easily be, "woman with blonde hair killed in charleston Monday night" or a plumber was killed in charleston. A woman was killed, who happens to be an escort. That's what we know.
There's no reason to use this as basis that the hobby is any more dangerous than any other time.
And I'm not saying that it's not a sad situation. Nor that it wasn't escort related.
But as far we know, it is not a situation where a client killed an escort. Nor a situation where someone is targeting escorts. At this time, there's no reason to suggest that the hobby world is less safe because of this anecdotal situation in which someone who happens to be an escort was killed for yet unknown reasons. She could have been killed for any number of reasons. The least of which may be that she's an escort. If it were a plumber, would you claim that the "plumbing world" is less safe than it has been recently? Of course not. Not unless someone was targeting plumbers.
As always, everyone should be safe.
