There is a well reviewed, experience provider that I contacted for an appointment. I didn't realize until later that she does not screen her clients - so I decided to cancel (my little head is still mad at me).

There is probably still time to salvage the appointment - just wondered what others out here do in this situation?

I personally would not see a provider that does not screen. If they are lax with that, they are lax with some thing else as well. In those situations I fear the client will indeed suffer in some major category most of us care about but I do realize not all of us. Even though you say she is a well-reviewed provider so you should know what you are getting based on them but performance is not the only thing to be concerned about in my opinion.  I do not know your standards or what you are looking for but I personally think you did the right thing especially in the environment of uncertainty which we reside in at the moment.

You contacted her for an appointment but canceled. Why did you make the appointment if she did not screen you?  But how do you know she doesn't screen her clients? Do her reviews state this?  

The OP is vague and assumptive, you could at least tell us how you know she doesn't screen anyone.

Lots of "well reviewed", "well known" ladies don't screen. I constantly get guys contacting me with references from ladies that just asked them a few questions over the phone and that was it. There is someone passing through the Carolinas now actually that doesn't use references or employment info for screening. Obviously nothing is 100%, but to flat out say that you don't need either? I would personally never trust that person.

Well who you decide to take as reference is obviously your choice. My post was to better understand the OP.  

I always find it interesting how people assume from their interactions with an individual that all of that individuals interactions with others are the same. I find it to be naive and misleading imo.

Her response to my intial email was to conact her via text or phone, which I did. We set up the appointment via text - the entire process from my initial email from the appointment was less than 5 minutes.

This seemed very unusual to me - way too easy. I watied a few hours to see if she had checked my profile on date-check (I had provided my ID on my initial email to her), but she never looked me up there (members can see who is checking their profile). At that point I decided to read her web site more carefully and saw that she does not do screening and is newbie friendly.

I had done my homework - looked at her reviews. Checked to see how many reviews each reviewer had written, etc. It never occured to me that someone with that many legitimate reviews would be accepting appointments without screening.

Julia, did you ever think of asking for a work reference? I have found this very convenient. Especially if they have a Website. One thing I always do is goggle their phone number and or name. You will be amazed what you pull up.  

At 3am the other night the phone rang and I did not answer it. Yet it woke me up and when I listened to the message........I was ticked. I googled the phone number, found the guys website. He was a roofer in Asheville.  

I called back and ask this person? Are you so and so? Yes. Do you live at this address and do you do roofing for a living? He replied yes, how do you know all of this? Well........I am passing this on. It is amazing what you can find out about a person with google.  

Just another for instance. I received a short brief email. "Where do you live?" I googled the person's email and found out he lived in San Francisco, CA. He was the owner of an Art gallery etc. It does seem to shock people when you answer their "Vague email with a bit of information. FYI.
