I have a huge problem with calling any woman (even the ones who deserve it) by the name Hooker, Whore, Prostitute or any other demeaning name that implies they are a lesser person then myself!
I was always taught to respect and be a complete Gentleman no matter what the circumstances or whom I am with. We John's/Client's also get a bad wrap as most of the "Moral" population feel we are scumbags who couldn't get a woman unless we paid for it. Just like you women, many of us are very well educated, we are respected individuals in or communities, we provide a good life for our families and are just plain good people who need an outlet in life that is graciously "Provided" for by you wonderful women! This "seedy" side of life is the oldest profession in the world and will continue with or without the approval of the ones who feel they must rule the way others live there life! BTW - I call my favorite companions friends as I really do feel we build a sort of friendship that goes beyond the sex...I can get sex anywhere, what I can't get is someone who I can call friend and enjoy an encounter without strings! Have a great day.. Muffyyesterday and many times before I see discussions about terminology what to call her, and yourself...
Provider is the most used term by guys.
I personally hate this one.
My reasoning, well its generic and cold. Takes me from who I am into what I do.
It focuses on the object of providing a service. I don't think its any better than *hooker* which it seems many guys take offense to. But they'll call us providers. Like that's any better.
Some on the other hand call us hookers more to prove a point or to try n put us in our place, or keep us there.
Funny thing is though they refer to themselves as clients. Hon, if im a hooker you are a John / trick. You cant have it both ways.
If you want to be the client then im a Companion.
I jump back to the term *hooker* now and again when Im being sarcastic or dramatic or someone needs a shot of reality. Its a way of saying, Im not fooling any one I know who I am what Im about and where Im going.
Besides no one gets arrested on Companion charges or Escort charges we'd all go down on Prostitution or soliciting as a John and in that case, they wont be calling you a client.
sometimes we all need a shot of reality. BUT that in no way is disrespectful on my part to my clients or my fellow Companions.
In my opinion, its the attitude behind the words that matter. Im not pointing the finger from a holier than though perch looking down on the hookers...I am a hooker saying no worries I know what im doing.
I also don't have a problem with what I do. I see nothing wrong with it, I am comfortable with my choices. No one can make you feel bad about yourself.
So its not the name but the attitude behind it that matters in my opinion.
This business gets a bad rap even from the inside. Yes there is a seedy underbelly that reeks of sorrow sadness and destruction, BUT there is in every business. There are top notch executives who throw their lives away on a destructive path taking everyone with them.
Berny Madoff comes to mind
Rock stars and celebrities who die young cause they spiraled and destroyed themselves.
Rich kids bent on doing time and getting in the papers
there are success stories here too many more than sorrows.
Lots of women raise their kids this way, live normal lives well above the poverty line with kids in private schools and so on.
They graduate from good schools with degrees and move on.
The focus is always on the sadness of this biz cause society doesn't want to look at this and see the good.
that would give it merit plus its illegal, bottom line and no one wants to reward bad behavior.
Its easier to blame the shameless women in this biz for leading their hubbys a stray than look in the mirror and ask themselves Honestly *when was the last time they Fucked their hubby or gave him a rocking Blow Job* Ahhh yes, I rest my case. They drove him into the arms of the other women happy to do their *dirty work* for them, and better than them. lol
And as immoral as our society at times can be they have no problem pointing fingers at how immoral they feel this can be.
So I prefer companion but I do so lightheartedly, as I am at peace with my profession on any term.
Jump in if you'd like...

I'll call you my friend. I use it all the time "I'm goin to see a friend Bye".
Nic…you have to write a book! I'll buy a copy $$$.

Although lately I have been "hooked" on a few women due to their looks[bodies], services, and passion.
Not sure where the term "hooker" came from so I found out:
The English word whore derives from the Old English word hōra, from the proto-Germanic kohoron (prostitute), which derives from the proto-Indo-European root kā meaning "desire", a root which has also given us the Latin caritas (love, charity) and the French cher (dear, expensive). Use of the word whore is widely considered pejorative, especially in its modern slang form of ho'. In Germany, however, most prostitutes' organizations deliberately use the word hure (whore) since they feel that prostitute is a bureaucratic term. Those seeking to remove the social stigma associated with prostitution often promote terminology such as sex worker, commercial sex worker (CSW), tantric engineer (coined by author Robert Anton Wilson), or sex trade worker. Another commonly-used word for a prostitute is hooker. A popular etymology "hooker" comes from the concentration of prostitutes around the shipyards and ferry terminal of the Corlear's Hook area of Manhattan in the 1820s. As early as 1816, Corlaer's Hook was notorious for streetwalkers, "a resort for the lewd and abandoned of both sexes", and in 1821 its "streets abounding every night with preconcerted groups of thieves and prostitutes" were noted by the "Christian Herald".
In the course of the 19th century they came to be called hookers.

Femmes de Maison, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, c. 1893–95
I too as I wrote my segment was wondering where *Hooker* came from.
cool beans
Another possible etiology for the word "hooker" comes from the civil war.
General "Fightin' Joe" Hookers armies were trailed by ladies plying their trade and came to be called "Hooker's Girls" then shortened to "Hookers". He was a lousy general, by the way.
Whatever the origin of e appellation, I don't like to use the word as it has pejorative connotation.
The same is true of the "W" word or any other name that demeans the lady.
"Companion" has nice connotation as do terms of endearment. But usually I just say that I am going to see a lady friend.
While hookers may not have gotten their name from Major General Joseph Hooker, he was part of the reason the name became so widely used.
“Additionally, soldiers in the Army of the Potomac, the Federal Army operating in the east in which Hooker served, quickly named the hordes of female camp followers that plied their trade on young and often naive soldiers, ‘Hooker's Legions,’ ”
Although the word was not introduced into the English language by General Hooker...
---------------
(copied from stripes.com)
"...Fighting Joe is not entirely off the hook, said Rob Dalessandro, of the U.S. Army Center for Military History at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C.
The term might have predated Hooker, but the general made it more popular by throwing parties attended by “fallen doves,” as prostitutes were also known at the time, Dalessandro said. In fact, the Civil War historian noted that a large red-light district in Washington became known as “Hooker’s Division.”
“Additionally, soldiers in the Army of the Potomac, the Federal Army operating in the east in which Hooker served, quickly named the hordes of female camp followers that plied their trade on young and often naive soldiers, ‘Hooker's Legions,’ ” Dalessandro wrote in an email.
Hooker did contribute to the evolution of the term, said Richard L. Baker, of the U.S. Army Military History Institute in Carlisle, Pa.
“We see the evolution and adoption of a word varies over time and by association with different groups of peoples,” Baker wrote in an email. “We can credit General Hooker and the Union Soldiers with adding to the continuity of the term in present form as such, meaning a ‘prostitute’ or hooker or streetwalker or floozy … oh you get the point!”

In short, General was a hobbyist that I probably would like to have known ![]()
This "hobby" is the world's oldest profession for a reason. You ladies provide an extremely valuable service that many of us are more than thrilled to receive. In a world where everyone treats one another respectfully, like human beings as opposed to disposable commodities, it's a win-win. Personally, I've always liked the title, "courtesan". That might be a little high-falutin' for some, but I like the sound of it as well as the level of sophistication and courtliness it implies. fwiw. Big kisses Ladies! You're all deeply appreciated in the Kev's lil corner of the world.
Hooker, courtesan, companion...blah blah blah.
I use "Social Consultant", because I'm vastly improving their social life
I do occasionally use hooker when being wry, or provider if that's what the client/friend/John calls it. As for the name for the hobbyist...well I call them my friend or client. Or a "work date" lol...to my girls in the business that I enjoy and who know me as a person, I call us working gals. I've never felt the need to really analyze how the name could make someone feel, though there is a good study out there about how job title effects work performance. Perhaps I should find it and post the link...it could be an interesting social experiment as well if I could set it up to measure perhaps average reviews of a gal who calls herself and the clients one thing, vice the more PC options out there.
Nicole, I really like that you bring up these somewhat controversial topics from time to time. They always provide some valuable insight for those in both aspects of this "hobby".
I was discussing with a good friend the other day about the psychology behind our profession...maybe one day I will post about certain aspects that we discussed.
that's why I also consider myself a companion. there's more to what most of us do than sex.
Its a social event its an intimate connection its hot steamy sex its an anxiety release.
that's the beauty of this business/hobby. It is to everyone a bit different and on a somewhat different level.
I have clients who Yes, are my friends who I care about a great deal. I've known for years and I adore.
I have clients who are sweet nice ppl they are my clients
and I have seen some ppl who are not interested in that connection.
its all about what it means to you and what you take away from this.
Its a beautiful thing. Have fun and get your Sexy on!
x
I'll be explaining something or telling a story and then I'll add you know its because "I'm a hoe!" lol
and my close clients know that the bag I keep my lube and condoms in is called my Hoe-bag! lol
I'll be ready to start the session and I'll be looking around and they'll ask Merc what your looking for, "Your hoe-bag!" lol
Have a nice day everyone!
She's a hoe!!! lol
HAHA LOVE IT.
I call it my slut kit.
When talking with my closest friends, I always say "That hoe Cameron is getting all the D. (INSERT REAL NAME HERE) needs to go out and get some"
I call it my Ho bag as well...so funny
That'll be the last time you see me. I sometimes make jokes with friends or clients referring to myself or someone in the buisness a hooker, but I'm not a streetwalker selling blowjobs to get my crack fix, TYVM.
In the tv show Firefly, prostitution is not only legal, but a highly respected profession. They have to go to special schools, and spend years training to become a Companion.
Guys, everybody, come on now!
It's not in the term, it's how you say it!
Most members of the ethnic (and racial) minorities (or even majorities for that matter) will tell you that a member of the outside group doesn't need to use commonly accepted derogatory term(s) in order for them to feel that they are being looked down upon. In fact they can use all the politically correct terminology but still project totally opposite vibes. In fact when people use politically correct terms only and almost exhibitionalistically try to shy away from more traditional terminology that always puts me on guard, kind of like I feel that they are largely "playing to the public" while trying to hide their real feelings that are not that clean.
Moreover, a member of the outside group can use the derogatory term in relation to some other group, that's right even in the presence of the member of that group, without the later feeling in any way degraded. It's all in the "how". Many (let's say) black people will tell you that the minute a white person says that he/she is not a racist, that instantly would put them on guard in regards to their real feelings. Kinda like "are you trying to convince me or yourself?" and "don't tell me, show me". I vouch to say that the same applies to any ethnic or racial group in relation to other groups.
I mean during the course of their work, if I'm in the mood I may call "my" working girls (that's the term that I consider to be the most neutral, kind of like "hobbyist") with all kinds of names. Sometimes they play up to it, other times it even would make them giggle. If any of them were to get upset over it I really wouldn't know what to make of it
In more serious setting I probably would try to avoid using direct terminology (unless in mocking context) and use "you" and your "friends-roommates-girl-friends" and the like.
Theoretically speaking however (never happened and likely never will but just for the sake of argument), if I were trying to 'really' offend a working girl I probably would try not to use any professionally-related name calling which by that point have already evolved for her into being something more 'descriptive' and even used in foreplay, but rather use more common ones or even something creative.

This is how I see it.......
Stick and stone will break my bones but names will never hurt me......
The way I look at it is we are all just people who participate in this activity for our own personal reasons. I will always treat the person I am talking too with the respect they deserve. I try not to use the term provider or any other title. I just like to use her name. It keeps it all very simple and cordial. Even if I was stood up by someone. Lol. We all make jokes around our inner circle which is fine. That is what the inner circle is for. To me a label is something you give a material object and people are not material objects.
Sweet Nicole makes a great point, that everyone feels different about certain titles. So what not just use their chosen name and respect it. Great point Nicole!
Just my thoughts. ....

Absolutely spot on!
we are more candid at ease and comfy with our peeps so yes slang is common.
xo
....... I'm fine with escort, provider, companion .... it's words like courtesan that make me laugh for some reason but it's used quite a bit (and honestly a lot that use it don't fit the word). I've started taking the 'guest' or 'date' in favor of/to 'client' or 'hobbyist' but in the end agreed it's more of the attitude behind the words.
