First off: I'm not interested in turning this into a cage match between SP's and hobbyists. I am not a big fan of stereotypes, and let's face it, if you're on either side of the equation, it's not in one's interest to pass blanket judgments.
In the interest of setting the record straight: I spoke with Robyn when I arrived, and she explained this supposed "incident" to me - that her neighbor was standing outside her door and wouldn't leave her alone. Personally that sounds like a damned good reason to sick security on someone. Robyn said she was going to try and switch rooms. I certainly understand that this sort of thing happens, and I was very patient about it until it became clear to me that I was simply being dismissed.
Problem #1 was when she called back to say that there were no rooms left to switch to. I suggested that she come meet me for a drink in the lobby to let the situation cool off for a while, and she agreed to get dressed and come downstairs. I honestly expected that to happen, and was genuinely surprised at the way things turned out. I was looking forward to the drink and chat.
While I waited for Robyn to come down, I called reservations at the hotel and found that in fact there were available rooms. I figured, worst case scenario, I'd get a room myself and salvage the night, giving her the benefit of the doubt. Never got the chance to offer that, since I did not have the opportunity to speak to Robyn again.
15 minutes later, as it's dawning on me that I'm getting blown off, I tried to call her back, and she didn't answer. She did in fact call me back, and the call must've gone straight to voice mail (as will sometimes happen) - and did leave a message cancelling the appt. This was now 30 minutes past the original appt time - 10:30pm. Message was pretty offputting...she could "try to squeeze me in another time" and that she was "sorry for the inconvenience". I tried to call her back several times, texted her...she clearly had shut her phone off at that point or was simply ignoring my calls. THAT really pissed me off - she clearly just wanted to either hang it up for the night - or more likely, extend her evening with the client who was there at the time. At ths point, on the way out the door, I left a polite, professional, but stern voice mail with Robyn expressing my displeasure at the way I was treated. If she had done me the courtesy of picking up the phone to talk to me, or calling me back, I would never have posted the start of this thread.
"Shit Happens" is not what happened here, Ol Desperado.
My experiences in the hobby have been overwhelmingly positive and I respect the ladies that earn their living this way. I treat them respectfully and, for the most part, really enjoy my time with them. Regardless of who blows off who, it's rude, and incredibly annoying. In my case, a massive waste of time and energy at a time of night where alternate plans were not possible. As is evident from the amount of effort put into this post, I was really looking forward to meeting Robyn. Perhaps I'll hear from her and post again with better news.
Oh, and nice burn, Foodguy. It was good to laugh about this.
