I am sincerely not trying to be condescending, but as with anything, you get what you pay for. Free email services are fine for typical home users, but trying to run a business with a free account… I wouldn’t think of it. There are many companies who provide business-class email service at a very reasonable fee. Many of these can provide more secure features, such as data encryption and certificate based access. In my opinion, any provider’s need for privacy and their customer’s confidentiality requirements far outweigh the typical $5 - $15 per month these services charge. I’m a data network engineer, and I don’t sell any such services, but I’d be happy to point any providers in the right direction. If interested, email me at ***tnahound2002***@---yahoo.com (no ***s or ---s)
But, Hushmail was supposed to be a secured safe site, and it most of the emails, were not getting to me. Also, I was paying for it! So, it looks like to me, with the money that you do pay for some of these services, you get "bumped" royally on both ends (in my case-homey don't play that over here lol), which sucks lol I refuse to pay for another site, that is going to be half-a&&ed, where I am not getting any of my emails. At least with hotmail, I was getting my emails back. If I am going to pay for something, I want to pay for something that really does work...lol So, that is why I posed a question to the providers about safe-mail, does it really work?
I agree 100% if you’re paying for the service, expecting to receive ALL of your email is not expecting too much! I didn’t realize hushmail was charging now. When they (or at least the name) first began providing this service, they were free of charge. I sincerely apologize for assuming they were still free.
However, the security provided by Hotmail, Yahoo, and even AOL and Earthlink is virtually nonexistent. Although LE can use several other methods to achieve their objectives, I for one don’t want to make their jobs any easier than it already is. I would never use my Yahoo account for any kind of “detailed” communication with any provider, including one I have seen previously. It’s just too risky today.
You can pick either or. I just happened to pick the premium service (big mistake on my part), and some of my emails were not getting to me. For now, I am going to stick with hotmail, until I can get some reliable sources on some of the other "secured" services that are out there.
I posted to a similar vein in the general discussion, but you can use PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) for encryption on any email service. It plugs directly into your email client if you'd like (outlook, netscape, eudora, etc) and allows you to encrypt/decrypt anything you send/receive. Just pick a service that you're happy with and run with it.
I won't rehash everything here, just check the link if you want to read more.
Wow, that was quick. I'd like to mention that I live nowhere near Boston, but I like this regional board more than any other. There's always an intelligent, interesting discussion going on and the women are really active participants as well.
I visited via work about 6 years ago and simply loved the town. Much smaller geographically than I anticipated. Ended up staying through the weekend afterwards just to look around. Now I just need to figure out how to get back, 'cause I obviously missed a few spots.
Melinda, if you or anyone else want more info on how to use PGP, PM me and I'll be happy to help. I've used it for ~10 years for professional and personal correspondance and I now find it indespensible.
Figuring it out, IS going to be another thing issue all together LOL Trust me, I am going to be emailing you very soon about this. I had already downloaded the software last night.Again, thanks so much
