Sure this isn't a typical post, from me, but I have to ask.
Since I'm not one to really wear make up I'm in a mostly natural state. I often wonder what it would be like if I actually learned how to put on make-up.
How did you learn? I was a tom-boy, still am in  some ways. I'd like to think that when needed I can figure out to keep my natural look with applying a little bit of light make-up that looks professional and will enhance my better features..
Any suggestion?
And yes, I'm serious. Oh, anyone who makes fun of my post will be flogged indefinatly.
(Yes, Im aware I'm going to get some very interesting aliases on this one. So go screw in advance, LOL.)

Thanks to those who actually are helpful. Like CD.

Dear Angie,

I am sure you look radiant au natural, but if you are looking for a more pin up or porn star type look, I would suggest going to a high end department store and asking for a makeover.  Less is more sometimes. Explain to them you are very much a natural no make up kind of girl who is now looking to spice up your exterior. They will totally hook you up. They will even apply all types of make up so you can be completely made over and see how you look before purchasing.

As far as tips. There are no tips really besides eye make up and lips really. It is so easy they will show you but if you ever get hung up and you look like a 3 year old drew with crayola's all over your face just look me up. I can guide you to the world of decked out hotties and glam.

Remember make up is a great step twoards the beautification process but also remember great exfoliaters, moisturizers that keep the skin smooth soft supple and wrinkle free are also must haves.

Then wrap that sexy package up in the hottest silky lacey or racey lingerie, heels and accessories. This is a fun job so why not go all out to look the part somedays. Other days just be more natural that is what I do. Though it is most appreciated when men tell you what they like then you can plan accordingly.

If you need more intensive help go to a spa like Red Door in Mystic CT and get a make up and beauty expert to show you how the pro's do it, although I consider myself pretty much an expert. You are talking to the only girl who played baseball in high heels, climb trees in them too. LOL!

Hope I helped sexy! Have a great rest of the weekend!!!!

AR,

It really depends on you and how you feel about make-up in general?

How do you look in your photos on your website or wherever you advertise? Do you represent a porn star or the girl next door look?

I feel a little eye liner, mascara and lip gloss goes a long way. You have to keep in mind most clients are seeing you during the day and have to return to work and then go home. So over the top make-up wouldn't work.

Now in the evening time I spice things up a bit in regards to make-up (assuming your client is an out of towner or doesn't have a curfew).

I don't have a problem with wearing red lipstick and heavy eyeliner but make sure that look doesn't overshadow your image.

Again it all depends on how you look in your photos. If you are really a "plain jane" then stick with liner, mascara and gloss.

If you are really a va-va voom diva, then spice it up but invest in the smudge-proof lipstick, liner and mascara.

Go to a MAC make-up counter and ask for tips on how to apply make-up and discover what works for you. You will be walking out of there knowing what works for you.

Good luck :)

I would suggest a couple of things:

Find a friend that you think possesses a style that is similar to the one you seek.  Obviously a great friend who uses lots of MU may not be best.  But another who uses "just enough" might gladly show you some basics to get you started.

Secondly, I am certain that a trip to a local department store (ala Macy's) would reveal a large resource of MU/style professionals that would be glad to spend a little time helping you along.  They also have the unique experience of dealing with many needs, desires and foundations.  If you find a pushy salesperson who "knows the answer", keep looking.  If you find a person with great depth and helpfulness, then the variety of options will materialize before your eyes, as will a good bit of training.

When I *do* wear makeup, I also prefer MAC... go to the store and have them do you up so that you can find all of your colors, and then ask a makeup artist to order them for you so you can get the 30% discount, lol.

I nearly never wear makeup outside of work, so things like fake nails and eyelashes are enigmatic to me. Although I'm trying to learn!

In my former life I was a make-up artist. I worked at Glamour shots and did freelance make-up for weddings. Here are a few tips for a natural look.

1. Don't go to a department store unless you are prepared to spend big bucks on their products. The girls who work there are sales people with very little training on make-up application but lots of training on how to hard sell. The products they sell at CVS are just as good, infact sometimes better.

2. You have nice skin so I would skip any type of face make-up unless you want to do a little light color. If so use a mineral powder and apply only a very small ammount. You could also try a tinted moisturizer. Almay makes a nice one.

3. Eyeliner and Mascara are probably the most important. Don't buy black! Your skin is too fair and it will look too harsh on you. Try a brown color, it will look nice and natural. Maybelene mascara in the pink tube is the best. Any kind of eyeliner pencil will be fine, just make sure it has a sponge on the end to soften the look.

4. Use a tinted lip gloss. It will add a little color with out going over board. Red lipstick is too harsh for your skin tone. Try a light pink or a light brown color.

5. If you want a lesson on how to apply any of this, give me a call. I would love to help you.

Jill:)
