I would reverse the question and inquire what can be done to make people more likely to post, especially with hot topics, non adverts, or simply something interesting? But then, I'm one of those pigs who enjoys this service. The noun is from a provider from ... wait for it... back page... who views herself as above all this and views us who enjoy TER as bacon in its potential form. What is particularly odd about her comment, said while we were scheduling, is that her reviews are relatively good. No, I didn't see her. Thank you for moderating the immoderate.
My approach to every board is that it's YOUR board, and YOU make it what you want it to be. I'm involved with 6 boards now and each has it's own personality and 'feel' of the community.
It's come to a point where I need to ask you, the members of this board, how you feel about certain posts.
Posts such as "what about this BP gal", "anyone available today", "where's her reviews", and the like...are permitted on some boards....and not welcome at all on others. The majority of these posts are made by people with no reviews (meaning no giving back to a "review" site at all), a history of offering nothing to the board but these types of posts, and either too lazy or dense to use simple tools like Tineye or Google.
If you can't tell by now...I despise these posts and have little use for those who make them. If you offer nothing to the community as a whole, and still can't figure out how to research...or plan...you shouldn't be 'doing' anything but your own hand. These inane posts push valuable information, fun threads, and provider once-a-week ads into the depths of secondary pages.
So it's your turn to speak up. This is YOUR board and I want to hear your thoughts, all of them. Aliases obviously allowed if you feel the need.
these posts often help unsuspecting hobbyists from making a mistake in going with someone who has ripped off someone's photos or worse.
So, I say let them stay.
Getting rid of them isn't going to make anyone give back by writing a review, and deprives others of the protection that a forum like this can provide.
Well most of the time I dont know what im talking about. I would say make different sections for advertising,bp crap,wheres her reviews or ter id and I dont know much about these tineye stuff im a rookie learning the hard way at least I have some post mostly from agencies I only tried 1 indy since I have no clue
I've done a few reviews over the years, but mostly I'm pretty quiet here. I can understand you not like the "what about this BP gal" posts, but I do find them valuable. While you can search the web for information, more often than not nothing pertinent is available. This is one of a very few venues where such a question as "has anyone seen this BP girl" can be more or less safely and comfortably asked and I think there is value to that.

I occasionally participate here and often participate on another board.
Nothing irritates me more than newbies asking for info prior to contributing.
If you had the wherewithal to actually join up than do you own damn research.
Quick example I recently battled a gent on another site who had been a member for THREE YEARS with zero posts. First post was an ISO and I called him out. He said "it is what it is" and then arrogantly asked for help again.
As someone who is not from the Boston area, but frequently works in this area, I would say don't make any changes to your board. The Mod(s) here are terrific. They provide help by letting us know who is posting fake pics, allow discussions about BP ladies, just to mention a couple of items. While I don't contact BP ladies, I've been tempted and the posts here bring back a dose of reality. I wish I could get our mod to use the same strategy that's used here. Do what you will, but I say you've got a good thing here, don't fix what isn't broken.
I say keep them. I'm very new to the hobby and find the posts helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I visited with a provider last Saturday and one yesterday and today scheduled an appointment with the first provider for a return visit this weekend. I plan to write and post my reviews this weekend and look forward to further participating in this community.
I used to participate on the cigar aficionado messageboard but the regulars here were such jerk offs to newbies I was turned off and never returned. I'm glad this place isn't like that.
The posts should stay. Folks who ruin provider ad threads by posting BS on them, folks who shill for providers and out-and-out trouble makers are the ones you should be worried about. The guys who post the "what about so-and-so ads" may one day become VIP members. You will never know if you piss them off by deleting their posts.
The mechanics of the board are what they are. The issue of valuable posts ending up buried is real but arbitrarily deciding who can post and who can't is not the solution.
Obviously I know nothing of TER's mandate to it's moderators. I respect the fact that you folks all have real lives and do this for free but it seems to me that trying to determine the direction a board takes is biting off a bit more than you should be.
I would vote to allow postings to stay. On occasion a provider might not be reviewed for a number of reasons, but, info may be available from this fishing expedition. Now if Lamont Cranston would have an identifying trait, I believe all TER users should buy him a drink when out.
Having a thread started each week about BP and Eros inquiries would be helpful. Although people can do their own research often there is not time or a convenient to do so all the time and having this Board community is here to help each other. If someone on the Board knows of a fake post or information about a provider it is nice to be able to benefit from that information. It never fails to amaze me about the many BP ads that state "pic is real" when there are several hits on tineye.
I'm all for setting up guidelines and rules to maintain the quality of the information on this site.

The Board tends to police itself when the Moderator is not the dominant persona on the Board, imho.
You don't go to a Red Sox game or Celtics game to have the officials dominate the scene.
Although I would agree that the posts you mention tend to irritate precisely because the poster didn't do any basic search or due diligence.
However, when a Board is too heavily moderated, it lacks any personality. It is the "BOSTON DISCUSSION BOARD" not the Boston Advertising Board or Boston Moderated Board!!!!!
I vote less is more, as it pertains to the Moderator.
...however, I feel all deserve 3 strikes and for those that only take away from the board and not give, should be allowed a maximum of 3(?) such posts and then its like VIP membership - earn it or pay for it!
Please do away with ALL posts pertaining to sports events, jokes, the weather, politics, etc. -- all of the extraneous stuff not related to hobbyists and providers.
As a long time lurker and infrequent poster, I really like Camille's idea. This would make it easy for the less computer savvy folks to get the info they need. Please put my vote in for keeping the posts and going with Camille's idea!
Speaking as a long time lurker, rare contributor, and daily reader I've got to say let the posts happen. When I see one with no responses I usually move on; with a response I usually learn a little something. I've got to go with Bostonguy and Camille and say "Let it Be" and maybe provide a thread that suits the topic. They've got more sense than most!
Well I asked you to come out...and many of you did. Both publicly and privately you have made your thoughts known. Every opinion has been considered...and appreciated. Don't think you haven't been heard.
At this time, despite my personal feelings, the board will remain the same. The majority has said that they do not mind these types of posts...obviously Lamont doesn't have a problem doing people's homework for them...and there wasn't outcry from the ladies about their ad positions (well, ad positions that is..lol). Most of you don't mind leaving the floodgates open, so they will remain so. You'll have to live without the Russian spam, enhancement ads, and mail order bride solicitations. I still draw the line there.
Just so it's said....I did consider the suggestions about these posts being categorized either daily or weekly. My thoughts are that doing it daily would mean my putting up a thread every day for a spot to put them. If we don't get any that day....then I've put up a worthless post that pushed someones thoughts or ad off the page. If I do it weekly, nimrods who aren't paying attention, or people from other boards, won't know how we do it here and I'd still wind up zapping a lot of posts. Then answering PMs about why their post was zapped. If it's someone who's traveling, they'd have to wait until the next weekly thread comes around.
So....while as with most things in life, there is no "perfect" solution that makes everyone happy. The way it operates now, while somewhat flawed, does not offend the majority.
