Apparently the Department of Homeland Security has nothing better to do with taxpayer money. As part of their "Safe Action Project", DHS is asking hotel staff to be on the lookout for:
garbage cans containing many used condoms
frequent use of "Do Not Disturb" sign on room door
excessive foot traffic in and out of a room
a guest who "averts eyes or does not make eye contact"
guests with "suspicious tattoos"
the presence of multiple computers, cell phones, pagers, credit card swipes, or other technology
the presence of photography equipment
guests with too many personal hygiene products
guests with too few personal possessions
rooms paid for with cash or a rechargeable credit card
refusal of room cleaning services for multiple days

I included a link to the article, but apparently it was removed for some reason. If you google "DHS safe action project" you'll come up with plenty of news articles on it.

The link has been posted on another site.   You think they would be more important things that they should be going after.

I have to be in a hotel.  (Believe it or not, there are other reasons to be in a hotel. 8o)

I guess I'll have some crappy hotel manager drop a dime on me, but without the DND sign on the door, these hotel people just barge in all the time like they are old bosom buddies

and the law is the law, whether it is prostitution or jaywalking it is illegal and it's their job to stop it.

Also the business your in is a cash only business, like the IRS,  DHS would like to make sure the money is not going
to bad people.

Beside Big brother has been watching for years. Get use to it.

Also if are worried about Big Brother watching you, think about it Big business has been watch you to.

If you have a loyalty card to a supermarket or Dept store, they track everything you do.

Have a Credit card, guess what they are watching you to.

Google do we really need to talk about them.

Just play it safe and you should not have any problems.

I very much doubt that all the guys calling you are looking for you to go to a dinner party with them.

They are looking for the old mattress mambo.

We know it isn't, and obviously LE has a right to ask people to inform them of circumstances that appear to give probable cause that a crime is being committed.

However, that doesn't mean there can't be a discussion of policies that go overboard and entrap or harass law abiding people who happen to want to use their DND sign (C'est moi!) while they are in the room, or who like to have a large assortment of toiletries.

I think many of the specific items called out there go against our Fourth Amendment rights and I think we should let the policy makers know that

There are way too many laws, so the average person is believed to commit three Federal felonies daily, and is saved from prosecution only by selective enforcement. That has to change, so LE doesn't have a bunch of violations to hang over our heads to make us do something they want. Repeal, repeal, repeal

use of the Fourth Amendment is proof one has something to hide, and they want to know what it is.

The Department of Homeland Security was created after 9/11 to protect us from terrorists. Can anyone explain to me how hookers threaten homeland security. (The only scenario I can come up with is a terror ring being financed by trafficked women..)

They're going out of their way to do everything they can to limit all of our rights to bare minimum
Why would you think freedom of speech or privacy would be any different
I don't agree with anything that they've done or they're trying to do but you have to give to him they are going at it in a pretty interesting way
There are a lot of photographers and businessmen that travel that carry a lot of gear with them
None of this surprises me but it does annoy the crap out of me

Watch out they're going to start telling you who you can hang out with you you can't and where and when and for what reason

I'll be careful and remember this is about companionship so it's none of their business what happens behind closed doors in my opinion

I just love it that a girl can be the biggest slut in the world sleep with every man under the Sun but the second she starts to charge all of a sudden she's committed a crime
All of a sudden we get all moral on her
Until she started to financially gain from this action was doing nothing wrong and it was nobody else's business
So basically financial gain is what the government is upset about
No one cares of she's a slut but if she's profiting from it well then that's crime
I call absolute fuckin bullshi

That is why you can not move more the 5,000 dollars with it being report.

Granted it  is a very long shot this would happen, but then again you never know.
As I said before this is a cash business and it's a lot of money being moved around.
The Gov want to know who is getting it and what they are doing with it.

DHS does not only keep up safe from Terrorists but any threat to the US, Drug Cartels, home grown radical's group and so on.  So they are not out of there rights to look into this stuff.

The world has changed a lot since 9/11 and what is going on in the world now, it's going to change a lot more.

The question is for the good or the bad

Unfortunately, several judges have agreed that it is fair to introduce evidence of a defendants desire to use their Constitutional rights to infer their guilt by so doing.

It was a sad day for justice when that happened

The main reasons they do so as I see it are:

1.  To allow pols to curry favor with the religious/uptight/think-of-the-children goo-goos who seem to reign in popularity today.

2.  It's a lot easy going after hookers and johns then fighting well armed terrorists.

3.  They hope to trade sex with hookers in exchange for letting them off easy

As Lamont noted earlier in this thread, Prostitution is illegal.   That's what is going on here.    Instead of complaining about it, why not contact your congressional representatives in Washington and lobby them to get the law changed.

A couple of weeks ago a link was posted in here about the Tempu.com escort service that was shut down and the operators were arrested in early December, after an investigation that started in 2012.   Somehow I don't think they just pulled Tempu out of a hat and decided to investigate them only.   They have to be looking into the other online escort agencies/services as well.

Just like there are laws against sodomy still on the books.  And laws that people of the same gender cannot get married.

People should be able to make their own decisions as long as there in no harm, no foul...

ccept for the fact that the government just walks all over our constitutional rights...

Eisenstadt V Baird 405  US 438 (1972)
The Supreme Court expanded the scope of sexual privacy rights when it struck down a Mass law banning the sale of contraceptives to unmarried couples.
the decision in this case Extended Constitutional Protection to ALL procreative Sexual intercourse, NOT just between married partners.

SO what the Fuck is the problem ?????
AND why the hell IS it a problem?????
What is the issue????
this is a matter of the basic stomping of my rights to privacy and any one elses...

all it leaves me with is a WTF????

You can have  all the sex you want, with whoever you want, buy all the condom you want but once money comes in the picture, it is a crime.

It's the law, End of story.

Yes, your going to complain that it is wrong and all that other stuff. Yes you are right on some points.
but until the law is changed, it's going to be illegal and you can get arrested for it.

I don't understand way everyone is so upset about it, it's not like this is a new law, it's not like people/agencies have not been busted for before. We all know this when we started doing this Hobbyest and Providers alike.

So deal with it and get over it

the way the law reads it should be off the table to get involved with anyones sex life period.
That in itself is protected by the right to privacy
the way the read it, our rights go right out the window for their agenda.

I know I know they do what they please and interpret the law to benefit themselves.

Not gonna beat a dead horse, just sayin

Once the communications are intercepted and stored, the data-mining begins. “You can watch everybody all the time with data- mining,”. Everything a person does becomes charted on a graph, “financial transactions or travel or anything,” he says. Thus, as data like bookstore receipts, bank statements, and commuter toll records flow in, the NSA is able to paint a more and more detailed picture
