Many years ago when my ex husband decided to clean out the bank account and leave me with two very young children I was that broke. I never tucked snacks but I know what it's like to go without creature comforts for my kids. Thanks for reminding me. It sure is humbling.
A divorce or death (or for my family, both) can literally drop you from a position of financial comfort to being homeless, living out of an old station wagon, and scrambling for a way out. I am sorry to say that at the bottom I resorted to shoplifting 2 pounds of hamburger just to give my little sisters something to eat besides noodles, canned green beans and water. I stuffed it between my jeans and boxers.
Two decades and a world apart later, those 4 frightening months left an indelible mark on me.

Hm... what you describe is awful and very tragic and definitely NOT FUNNY. But isn't it fascinating how we find many (if not most) of the tragic things funny though?
I found that story funny without even giving it a thought to what led that poor woman to such desperate measures. I bet most of the people felt the same. Moreover, I bet if the two of you didn't have to go through your sad experiences yourselves you probably would've found it funny as well. Goes to show what kind of spices we truly are.
Don't you think we really deserve to have a nuclear war (or some other major calamity) sprung upon us and get wiped out from the face of the earth? If no, why not?
My ex husband is going through yet another divorce (4), struggling financially, just had his mother move in with him and I just booked a trip to Ireland. Very karma~esque
