Ironically the first thing I noticed about the "BDSM community" was a high degree of conformity.  You'd expect it to be the wild west, but instead there's an atmosphere of "authorities" barking out rules and regulations.  Defining things, etc.  All you have to do is spend ten minutes on fetlife reading all the rants telling you what is and isn't as they define what reality is to be accepted.

F that.  My advice is if you meet someone who throws a crowd sourced "rule book" at you, move on.  Find someone who is more individualistic and follows their own course.
