Then, it won't be long until the state attorney general's or county LE look to our own little community for their next victory (see the trouble in DC Boards for an example- much REAL drama that has many, many reviewers and providers really concerned).

I agree with you loveter. They make more difficult for a working girl to earn a living. They can not seem to fix the economy so that they draw attention away from their mistakes by scandalous smoke screens as they tried with the Govener of NY and SC.

Just to spite them I post ads on the site of the new BP.

I've noticed that in the last couple weeks or so, some of my ATFs dissapeared from that site.  I knew something had to be going on...

If you do not have demand for a product at a given price point, rates suffer. This will occur regardless of your overhead costs.

My biggest fear is future  censorship of TER, Eros and Citi, etc.  

There are some positives to look forward to.  I mean, the BP ladies will go elsewhere to post ads. I predict the venues such as Eros, Citi and TER will see a substantial uptick in new provider advertisers.  
I also predict it put downward pressure on provider rates.  

When BP escort ads come to a halt then the most positive outcome will be the over-explicit ads will go away, too.

I worry about the censorship also.  I can't understand the comment about provider rates being driven downward by this action though.  I have overhead and that's why my rate is what it is.  I'm not the government so I refuse to operate in the negative.  I predict that the ladies who were charging too little on BP because they didn't know any better will get an eye opener when they begin to advertise on other sites such as TER and they will see that they have been charging too little all along!  

Lower rates are driven by 4 things:
the locale of the provider (low cost of living in the area)
desperation and or ignorance
the lack of ability to compete with the rest of the pack

I think you are right about how rates are figured by providers. Regarding my uneducated guess about the downward pressure in rates:  I think if there is a trend toward lower rates it iwill probably be temporary.  

Many providers ONLY advertised on BP and CL for free for years.   Now they have to start paying for real advertising that increases their overhead.  Eventually their rates will have to go up .  

I worry some may bring a low-end mentality to fine venues such as Eros, TER.  But I suppose ( and hope) ads at higher end venues are screened before publishing.

You are correct and in essence are saying the same thing I said.  IMO

But if I can't make overhead, which I have no problems with at present, it's time to find something else to do!

I thought it odd that when this post first appeared that NO ONE anywhere else on any other board had mentioned receiving a letter that BP was closing?  
I also use BP regularly and received no email stating such.

Just 3 seconds ago, I just received an email from Carl at Backpage discussing the new features of the site, the Ipad give-away winner, and a 25% off promo code.  Funny you would think he might have mentioned the site was to be closed?  

I did email him back and point blank asked him if BP was closing their erotic section and moving over to this "Independent List" site?  I will post when he replies.

I got the same email NO!! mention of closing BP. I also sent him an email.

Yes, Carl of Backpage just replied to me.  Here is copied and pasted from his email:

"No, we are not closing.
We realize the changes we made to are posting rules are a big changes.
However, we think these changes are good for the site overall.
In the end we would like our site to be much more upscale."

They are trying to clean it up.  
My advice is just to be sure not to slack on screening when using BP.
