Hello everyone!!
Just a note to let everyone know that I will have availability for the remainder of the week in the Atlanta area. I am still on limited e-mail access, so the best way to contact me is to simply give me a call at (404)822-4041.
On a more negative note, I am sad to share a bad experience I encountered over Labour Day weekend.
A man gave me a call, telling me he was travelling to Atlanta from Savannah, and was looking for a companion while he was in town. According to him, he visits providers rather regularly, and did not hesitate to give me references. Unfortunately, it was rather short notice, so I was not able to get in touch with references..and so I used my "alternate" screening process, asking for some personal information, and to see identification when he arrived at my incall location.
I really should have trusted my intuition, as something seemed a bit "off" about this individual...he made an issue of not wanting to park his car in my parking lot, and that he found it odd that nobody is allowed access to my building unless I come outside and let them in. In retrospect, I realise he was likely simply concerned about me seeing his car and/or license plate number. But, at the time, I chalked it up to "some people are a bit eccentric"...he gave me a story about coming to Atlanta with a friend in the car, and his friend was going to have lunch at a nearby restaurant and then come back to pick him up. I found it odd, but not the weirdest thing I've ever heard.
This individual was a very kind, respectful person to visit with, and halfway through our meeting, suggested we get lunch at a restaurant down the street. We walked down the street, and I went in the restaurant, while he supposedly went to his car to retreive something. Of course, he never came back, and after a few minutes I felt very suspicious, and went back to my apartment to phone him. I checked the "donation envelope" he'd left, only to discover $11 inside, in one dollar bills. I called the cell phone he'd called me from, only to get a message that the "wireless customer could not be reached". Later in the day, the phone was working again, but I was for some reason not directed to voicemail. I've,of course, not been able to reach this person since.
If anyone is contacted by an individual who uses this particular story, or parts of it...please be extra careful. If you contact me, I can provide more specific information.
I suppose I should consider myself fortunate. I am, by nature, a kind and trusting person...and I always think that "karma" serves me well in life. This is the first negative experience I've had in the time I've been in this business, and the first time I've ever had reason to feel more on-guard with people who contact me. It makes me a bit sad; I've always trusted my intuition to keep me out of such situations, and I should have listened to my first instincts. I only hope that this individual is not able to pull this scam on other providers in the future...and fully believe that we all get the things back that we put out there in the world.
If this person happens to be reading this, I hope you realise that you are not only hurting yourself, but the entire community, in this despicable, self-centred behaviour. I am only glad that people such as this are the minority, and not the standard, of treating others with the kindness and respect they deserve.
*Hugs*,
