I am so pissed off. I contacted a young provider about a possible meeting. She screened me and everything was fine. As it turned out, my trip to Atlanta fell thru. I called her 2 days before the scheduled meeting and left her message that I wouldn't be coming to Atlanta. Early that evening she called me, while I was at home with my family. I couldn't believe it.. She's young (early 20's) but has been around awhile. She should know better.

Next time just say wrong number or to call back during business hours or something to clue her in that you are not alone.  Better still, check your own caller ID and don't answer.

IMHO, anyone that has a family at home, or will be spending any amount of time around people that would have issue with one's hobbying activity, is silly not to have a burner phone.  Personally, I think every guy thinking of contacting a lady for a "visit" should have one, but I know there are some single gents that don't feel the need.  Besides the obvious reduced risk of traceability back to you, the use of a disposable phone eliminates the need to contact via a blocked number, thereby increasing chance of call-back.   Just make sure you google the number of your burner, before you give it out as you never know who had that number before you.

So the lesson here- go with a provider with experience ( an not just in etiquette)

I know you've hobbied long enough and probably are very aware of the basic "rules of engagement" to maintain your discretion.  I'm also betting by your screen name, you probably prefer the ladies that are a bit more mature and schooled on the proper etiquette.  I suspect we're preaching to the choir, however, sometimes all of us let our guard down and get a bit careless.  While I'm not in the situation you referenced, it still serves as a good reminder for all of us.  Sorry that happened to you, and happy hunting next time.

I would never call anyone unannounced, hobbyist or provider for that matter.

If by "family" you meant the wife and kids, you need to get a burn phone and keep it away from the house.  I keep mine in the bottom of a drawer in my office in the off position and only turn it on when I need it.  Carry the hobby phone around the house and you will get busted eventually.

You might have more explaining to do if someone found your burner phone.  Best to turn your phone off in the evenings when you are with your family or leave it in your car.  Also keep you numbers disguised.

It's a lot easier to keep a burner out of the house than it is to keep a cell phone clean 24x7, especially if the SO is an observant type.  You do not want to mess around with an SO's intuition unless you are a total sociopath with CIA-level spy skills. Plus, burners can't be traced back to the owner by LE.  I'm sorry, but using a civie cell for the hobby is a big and unnecessary risk.
