Not sure which provider you are speaking of, just taking a guess...it seems he booked a lady that was not his "type" and ended up not having a good time because of it. I know that's happened to me a few times and it's always an awkward situation on my end too. I feed off the other person's energy, so if he's having a good time, I'm having a good time, we both have a great time...win/win! If she's your type, you will probably have an awesome time with her! I wouldn't take her off your radar because of one YMMV review.

One is for appearance and one is for performance.  Over my (unfortunately) long life I've had my brains fu*ked out by some relatively plain gals who would probably rate a 5 or so.  (Momentary time-out while I recall a somewhat muscular lady who worked in a plate glass manufacturing plant in Vancouver, BC.)  I'm back - so I don't think there should be a tie by definition between the two.  Because physical attractiveness plays an important role in the hobby world (see Alana's marketing thread), there tends to be a greater tie than would be found in the world at large.  Unattractive girls generally wouldn't be successful here.  Plus, many/most guys want some sort of romantic fantasy, so appearance counts.  To me the appearance scale is an absolute, not relative, one.  A gal can't help (cosmetic surgery excepted) what she won in the gene lottery, but she can sure determine what she does with it.  That includes taking care of her body and making sure you are excited, not disappointed, when the door opens.

So to me, the Appearance score is pretty much in place by the time we head to the bedroom, pending clothing removal.  The Performance score begins with the greeting, but pretty much kicks in once the clothes are kicked off.  What has always bothered me, though, is the personality factor.  If there was a third score for personality would be off the charts for most of the very successful ladies.  If affects their persona, which would be an extension of appearance, as well as their performance.  Because the Appearance criteria are so physical, I tend to shade personality towards performance.

I think most guys try to do an honest job to help guide their buddies.  And it is certainly a variable scale, as other threads have noted.  That said, the community may be better served if there were a few more 7/10s, and 10/7s for that matter.  Otherwise it starts looking like Lake Woebegone where all children are above average.

I always go for the combined total and draw the line at 15.

TER scoring is essentially a survey.

Now, in a professional survey - political polling, for example - sophisticated techniques are used to statistically attenuate individual survey replies so you'll get more "usable" aggregate results; sadly, TER doesn't use these techniques.

My average response for a "good" session, looking back, it 6.92 - let's call it "7". So, I'm a "7" kind of guy - assuming most hobbyists enjoy the hobby, and safely assuming that I'm at least somewhat like most hobbyists, you can assume if I rate a girl a "7" she's worth seeing.

For another reviewer, that metric might be an "8", or even a "9".

When I'm researching a girl in TER, I have a quick look at all her reviewers: if they have one review, I disregard their review; if they've submitted pairs of reviews monthly, I disregard their reviews (they're posting fakes for membership); the remainder I look at their scoring trends to see if it leans "hi" or "lo", and then amend the review of my girl of interest. No, I don't use a spreadsheet or anything - it's just a quick mental assessment of what's going on statistically so I can make a (more) informed selection.

(Over time, I'll become aware of certain reviewers predilections and weather they're similar or different from mine - if a reviewer likes "thick" girls, for example, I'll consider his high reviews for appearance to be a negative, so I might replace "9" with, say, "4".)

TER would be immensely more useful if it would implement two tools: (1) smoothing scoring results with analytics and (2) allowing users to "tag" other reviewers as (+) or (-) if those reviewers have tastes very similar to (+) or different from (-) mine; this latter function would improve the analytics, as well.

So if JoeThickLvr reviews a girl with a giant ass and huge tits, he's going to give her a "9" for appearance - but if I've tagged JoeThickLvr as a (-) reviewer (because I like skinny model-types), TER will "correct" the scoring results I see per my tastes.
