Just performing a nerd check.  Did anyone see "Provider Math" and think of it as a reference to "Bistro Math" from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

"Provider Math" sounds like it would be equally as useful and definitely more fun to calculate.  

If you have no idea what I'm referring to, just forget I asked . . . it shouldn't take you long.

Said provider could be deliberately discouraging you from 90 min appointments; or perhaps does not like spending time with people that can do math and wants those people to leave on the hour; or she despises the mathematically challenged and wants to punish them.  

Also possibly, the provider could be subtly mind fucking you, giving you conflicted feelings that would not otherwise be there had her pricing made logical sense . . . then again being a woman, logical sense may have absolutely nothing to do with it   Or she could be committing a nerd hate crime, by setting up the math to activate your OCD and send you into an endless loop searching for answers.

2 working hard to make money to indulge in the hobby. #2 don’t have all the time in the world and are studious in what, where and whom they spend their $, so they can continue to indulge.

Yes, I don’t know about the rest, but if 90 minutes doesn’t make sense, I am not going there. It is like pricing, to some $9.99 is $9.00 and to others it is $10.00. It all depends on where and whom taught you rounding and in which country and whether you think with your small head or the larger one with gray matter.

The OP mentioned "per minute" pricing! Geez! Makes me think of the person that punches the time clock at exactly 9:00, THEN goes and makes his coffee, stops to chat with the receptionist..."works through lunch"...and from 3:30 til 4:45, he's on his personal email, Facebook, TER (lol)...and he's watching the clock for the last 15 minutes waiting to punch the clock at 5 on the dot. Rate is probably the most talked about topic ever to grace the board knowledge base of TER.  Doesn't matter which board you frequent, you'll see it, over and over again with the same BS too.  We'll see the the shills who will break ranks with their male counterparts to curry favors with the gals by defending the indefensible high rates with some sort of self contrived explanation for what has no "logical" explanation, except "because they can".  And we'll see the familiar, "I've gotta buy soap" so that's why I "must" command hundreds of bucks above what the majority request.  Or, we'll see the familiar inuendo about how "my stuff is so good" that I "deserve" ... blah blah blah.

The truth of the matter is that some guys have the money and some don't.  Or, they can conceal the expenses in their business trips so no sweat off their wallet.  Such is life.  The other simple truth is that this is a hobby of greed, pure and simple.  Gals are all gonna make the effort to get the maximum they can, and guys all want the biggest bang for the buck.  It is what it is.

Where it gets distorted is when someone trys to apply any other logic than simple greed to the discussion.  Try as you might, you will never "logically" defend it with any other explanation.  And those who try, typically just make a fool of themselves.  Things get compounded into yet more ignorance when the only real experience a guy has with this whole topic is by what he sees on TER.  If this is the only information you have about pricing, you might be fooled into believing that what you see for rates is the "norm".  O well....  but those who actually follow what we all claim to be the proper approach, that is, do your darn homework, will have a much more realistic outlook on the so-called "norm".

We'll see this topic again, I'm sure because like the hundreds of times before, try as many will, there will never be a satisfactory and logical explanation presented in a convincing way by those who ask for the high rates and those who don't mind paying it.  For those who are not in this category, we'll just be the cheapos and life goes on... LMAO....

P4P is mostly a one way street that is Hobbyist ——> Provider. Greed is the absolute truth and setting the base rate and adding the same increments for 90 and 120 works only if the base price is correct. Then again, we live in math and science challenged education system!

I would argue, unless you works for a mom and shop operation, or loose small business where there aren’t financial controls, or politicians office or you are politician or lobbyist; the days hiding this or going to a strip bar in an expense report are over a long time ago. That is if you want to keep your job.

I travel a lot and have company credit card without any spending limit whatsoever and if I used it for the hobby, I am done and will be in jail probably.

Satisfactory and logical explanation is not going to happen when emotion and name calling is involved, would it?

Start off as a agency girl.  Charge $275-$300.  One day go independent.  Bump up your prices to $350-400+.  Come back and trash the same type agency girls you once were, who may or may not be better looking as you, as low grade.  Brilliant!

This has been an interesting series of posts.  From my perspective, I do not think the OP was bitching about rates, but about apparent inconsistensies in rates, not when applied to different providers who may have different opinions of self value, but when applied to the same provider's rates for different appointment lengths.  If we try to look at this logically from a return on investment perspective we would need to consider the following:

1.  the general standard block of time is 1 hour, therefore that would be the base rate for service(s) provided;
2.  If a provider's day is calculated at lets say 4 appointments each at $300 with an hour an one half between appointments, then the time working is 8.5 hours (4 x1 hour appointments and 3 x 1.5 hour recess between appointments);
3.  Assuming all daily time slots can be booked, then a 1.5 hour appointment would result either an extension of the work day or the inability to book the 4th appoitment.  If the provider does not care to put in the extra 1/2 hour then that is her choice in pricing.  If the provider loses one full hour appointment to take on a 1.5 hour appointment then she has lost $150 in potential revenue on that day.
4.  If the provider is only booking 1 or 2 appointments a day, then she would benefit by pricing the 1.5 hour appointment and the 2 hour appointment at a rate somewhat lower than the compound rate based on the 1 hour appointment rate.

The pricing formula above is based on a revenue maximizing approach based on a limited time work day.  The provider experience with the appointment times is alien to me, but I would imagine that with Viagra and an older clientele a provider would take a much longer pounding over 1.5 to 2 hours with one client that she would with two clients during two 1 hour appointments.  The only logical way to price this scenario would be on a stroke/inch basis, but that gets into dynamics I an not qualified to address.

I prefer to pay for VIP instead of lying for it!

There are people in places who consider what THEY want to attract when creating price guidelines.  I suspect the agency you refer to is one that wants one hour appts as much as possible.
